In this film by the Military Times, Medal of Honor Recipient Staff Sergeant Leroy A. Petry reflects on his experience in Afghanistan and the responsibility we all have to serve others. After being wounded in combat, Petry made a split-second decision to protect his fellow Rangers, saving their lives through an act of extraordinary courage.

His message goes beyond the battlefield. True courage is found in honoring responsibility, making the right choices, and drawing strength from the people we care about.

We are beyond honored to announce that a 7th Medal of Honor Recipient has been added to The Invicta Gala — James C. McCloughan will join us on April 18, 2026 in Dallas, Texas! During three harrowing days in May 1969 near Tam Ky and Nui Yon Hill, Vietnam, PFC McCloughan — serving as a combat medic with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade — ran through open fields under heavy fire to save wounded comrades, ignored direct orders to stay back so he could re-enter the kill zone again and again to drag men to safety, refused evacuation despite being wounded multiple times by shrapnel and small arms fire, and ultimately helped hold off two NVA companies and 700 Viet Cong soldiers while keeping critically wounded Soldiers alive through the night — actions so extraordinary they earned him the nation's highest military honor.
