Why Luke Binegar and I find it critically important to utilize radiographs for shoeing. This is a very typical presentation of a horse dealing with LLD issues. All 4 feet have very different phalangeal alignment. This is a result of postural asymmetries that have led to overloading of the left front and right rear.

With this data we can properly formulate a shoeing plan in conjunction with addressing the body imbalances.

What does an LLD horse look like ? And what do the typical radiographs look like ?

This horse has a dropped scapula on the right front and dropped pelvis on the right hind. The right front scapula asymmetry leads to overloading of the left front and subsequent overloading of the right hind. We would describe this as an LLD ( limb length disparity ) case.

This animal would have difficulty keeping its right lead , have saddle slipping issues to that side and propulsion issues in the left hind. Always feeling like he’s falling under himself to the right.

Radiographs of this horse. Almost without fail we see different hoof angles and phalangeal alignment in all four feet due to compensatory loading. We find it’s imperative to have radiographs of every limb in order to properly balance these horses feet while also addressing the body/postural imbalances.
