This augmented reality headset dates to the 1800s. The newest tech in our office is actually the oldest!
Vision therapy can trace its roots to the mid-1800s when French ophthalmologist Louis Javal wanted to find a non-surgical way to treat his father and sisterās eye turn. Javal, and others, created visual exercises called orthoptics that aimed to straighten the eye without going under the knife. He used a stereoscope to train their vision - a device that presents two slightly different images, one for each eye, to create the illusion of a single, three-dimensional image. The augmented reality headset essentially does the same thing - takes two images to create the illusion of 3D space.
And we are still using it to improve vision! š
