Our Orthopaedic Surgery residents are putting in the work! 💪

We had a fantastic night wrapping 50+ gift baskets for women escaping domestic abuse at My Sister’s House.

Sincere gratitude to all the residents and incredibly generous donors: Dr. Kelley Banagan (for the lion’s share of supplies/gifts!), Dr. Renee Rosati (baskets), Anne Metzger (hygiene items), Sandy Harvey (socks, lotion and makeup bags), Jackson Ferdon & his wife (lotions), Dr. Ciandella, and other
contributing faculty.

So proud of this team’s commitment to giving back this holiday season! 🎁

On Wednesday, we had a wonderful time at the West Ashley Health West Expansion Celebration. This expansion marks a significant milestone for the community and the hospital!

A huge thank you to Dr. Reitman, Greg Gischia and Dr. Cawley for their insightful speeches which were covered by local television stations. The celebration also allowed attendees to enjoy a special tour of the new space which will allow us to serve our patients even better.

Another month in the books! 🎃

We had a fantastic time at our oyster roast! It was a great way to unwind, connect with colleagues, and enjoy some delicious Lowcountry cuisine. We’re so grateful for everyone who attended and made it such a memorable event! 🦪

We’d also like to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Hartsock, Dr. Reid, and Dr. Demos for their invaluable contributions to our recent cadaver lab. This hands-on experience was truly invaluable for our residents, providing them with a unique opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting.

Our second-year ortho residents recently completed the AO Basic Course in Lexington, KY. This intensive course is a fundamental rite of passage for orthopedic residents across the country, having been offered since the 1960s.

The AO Foundation, a global leader in bone and joint surgery, developed the course to provide residents with the latest techniques and knowledge in fracture care. During the course, residents learned about a variety of fracture treatment techniques, including open reduction internal fixation (ORIF), external fixation, and nonoperative management.
