Allan D. Lieberman, M.D., F.A.A.E.M. – Founder of COEM

Dr. Lieberman has practiced medicine for 58 years, specializing for the last 36 years in Environmental Medicine and Toxicology (for both adults and children), and formerly in Pediatrics. As a research scientist, he developed Molecular Signal Therapy to help treat autism and other neurological disorders, and has published numerous research articles. In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious Herbert J. Rinkel Award for Academic Excellence and Achievement in Environmental Medicine.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Chicago Medical School in 1960 and continued training at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, IL, in the practice of General Medicine, and at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Pediatrics and Pediatric Pathology.

As a former pediatrician, he co-authored multiple papers in clinical pediatrics and worked in hepatitis virus research, as well as participating in early clinical experience with the new measles virus vaccine. He became Medical Director for the MUSC Vince Moseley Diagnostic and Evaluation Clinic for the Neurologically Handicapped and for the SC Coastal Center for medically re****ed and neurologically handicapped children. He was also a private practice pediatrician.

Dr. Lieberman was one of the first physicians to recognize environmental triggers as causes of alterations in health, thinking, and behavior, and earned Fellowship in the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. Environmental Medicine embraces a comprehensive approach to medicine and addresses problems related to allergy, immunology, nutrition, and toxicology.
