On , we celebrate the women who lead, advocate, heal, and transform communities every day. Women make up the majority of the social work profession and they’re advancing equity, strengthening families, shaping policy, and standing on the frontlines of change. Today, we honor their leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment to justice. And we recommit to building a world where every woman and girl has the opportunity, safety, and support to thrive.

Uplift. Defend. Transform.
Happy Social Work Month! https://tinyurl.com/5n8uunvn
Social workers are well-educated, train for years and develop expertise not just to change people, but to reshape systems that can help people live far richer and improved lives. Our society over the course of the last year has seen incredible upheavals that have changed our economy, the way we access and pay for care, and interact with one another.
That is why this year’s theme is Social Workers: Uplift. Defend. Transform.

EMS is here to help you and your loved ones. “Each Mind Matters!”
Since 2005:
EMS of Virginia offers community based mental health services to children and adults in the greater Richmond area, to include the City of Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, Petersburg, Hanover, and surrounding areas. EMS strives to work with each individual and family on their specific needs, with the idea that “each mind matters”. In a field where there may be several choices of providers, EMS works from a holistic perspective to take into account the client in their environment. As such, EMS focuses on Homeless Prevention services to clients who are struggling with homelessness or challenges with housing stability. Homeless Prevention is a focus of our Mental Health Skill-building Program.
**What programs does EMS offer?
EMS offers Mental Health Skill-building Services (MHSS) for adults age 18 and over who have a Serious Mental Illness, a history of hospitalization, and are currently prescribed a psychotropic medication. Each client in the MHSS program may work with a counselor up to 15 hours per week on goals related to increasing his or her over all stability. The counselor will go to the individual’s home, meet in the community, and provide coaching opportunities to enhance life skills. MHSS is a Medicaid funded service.
EMS offers Intensive In-home Services (IIH) to children up to the age of 18 who have a history of mental health services and despite these services, continue to experience significant challenges in the home, school, and community settings. Each client in the IIH program may work with a counselor up to 10 hours per week in the home environment. As well, family therapy is provided for each client in IIH at least monthly by a licensed or licensed-eligible professional. IIH is a Medicaid funded service.
Homeless Prevention Services are available to all clients and families, as well as individuals in the community who are not currently involved with another EMS service area. The goal of the Homeless Prevention Program (HPP) is to assist individuals with securing and maintaining stable housing with a focus of reducing homelessness in the community. HPP may provide linkages to resources in the community and provide financial guidance in the process. HPP does not offer housing, but rather, assists with bridging the gap between those in need with the housing resources available in the area.
EMS is able to offer Mentoring services when a funding source is secured as this service is not billable through insurance. A Mentor will work 1-1 with a youth to provide guidance and support in the community setting. The Mentor can work with the youth for up to 10 hours per week, or as funding allows.
