Ryan Fist, a second-year student in the Physician Assistant Program, was awarded the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship, a $3,500 award given annually to a healthcare student living within the hospital’s service area. The scholarship is supported by a volunteer committee that fundraises through the hospital and local community. After submitting an online application, letters of recommendation, and completing a Zoom interview, Ryan was selected as this year’s recipient. The award will help offset tuition costs during their clinical year in the PA program.

Congratulations, Ryan! We're proud of you.

Dr. Natalie Turrentine, an Assistant Program Director in the Physical Therapy program, was recently invited by the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (AAOMPT) to engage in a discussion regarding her research on the significance of incorporating obstetric physical therapy considerations into entry-level physical therapy curricula.

In the linked podcast, Dr. Turrentine explores the role of advocacy in healthcare for
individuals who are pregnant or postpartum and offers practical insights on how
physical therapy programs can effectively integrate these topics into their educational
framework to better support their patients' needs.

Are we preparing future PTs to treat pregnant patients — or are we falling short?🎧 In this episode of Hands On / Hands Off, host Nick Rainey talks with Dr. ...

Thanks to the Boxer Library staff who shared materials and guidance, what began as a simple wellness activity sparked something unexpectedly beautiful when a few first-year Pathologists' Assistant students started folding origami stars, one by one.

What started as a small craft quickly became a shared passion, growing into a vibrant project involving 12 jars, 9 students, and likely over 10,000 stars. These tiny creations became more than paper—they marked milestones, lifted students through the challenges of a demanding program, and celebrated their wins.

This quiet, colorful hobby gives them a sense of calm, community, and creativity in a field that calls for fine motor control, precision, and dexterity.

Happy Mental Health Awareness Month!
