Dr. Yovanna Pomarico, Assistant Professor and Program Director of the PreMatriculation Program, recently completed the 2025 ASAHP Leadership Development Program (LDP) — an intensive two-part series designed to cultivate future leaders in allied health. The program’s first session took place in Nashville, TN, in April, followed by the concluding session at the ASAHP Annual Conference in Indianapolis in October.

During the LDP, participants collaborated in teams to address a mid-level leadership development scenario. Each group proposed a research topic, presented preliminary findings to LDP peers and stakeholders, and delivered a final presentation at the national conference.

This immersive experience offered valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities faced by current and aspiring deans. Beyond the project work, Dr. Pomarico shared that one of the greatest takeaways was the strong network of supportive colleagues built through the program—connections that will continue to play a vital role in her leadership journey.

She looks forward to applying the knowledge and skills gained to support her continued professional growth and contributions at RFUMS.

On Oct 23-24, the Global Tracheostomy Collaborative (GTC; an interprofessional organization focused on tracheostomy care, best practices, education, and research) met in Chicago to discuss standardization of processes, knowledge, and training gaps across professions, patient and caregiver needs, transitions of care, strengths, and gaps.

Dr. Meredith Baker-Rush, a Professor and Program Director in the Interprofessional Healthcare Studies program, presented a psychometric pilot of a Knowledge and Confidence Test for tracheostomy and mechanical Ventilation (KCTTMV). Researchers, clinicians, and patients/caregivers were present. Future and ongoing work on developing the KCT-TMV will move toward a larger and more diverse interprofessional healthcare team with the aim of strengthening the reliability and validity of the tool.

Dr. Baker-Rush, Dr. Pandian (President of the GTC), and several other members of the GTC continue to move the needle forward on patient, family, and healthcare provider education through the development of online modules that will be released by the GTC in 2026.
