We want to thank you so much for the prayers, cards and love you have shown towards Michelle and her daughter Avery! This is why we always consider our patients as family, you are amazing! Here is the latest update from Michelle. She has a long road ahead of her, but the doctors say she is a miracle. Your prayers are working! We will update the website for the online get well cards, for the new room she has been moved to on the PT floor. Those cards have lifted all of their spirits!
Avery Update 2-4-26
Avery continues to defy the odds. She is a miracle and her strength never waivers. She still battles with daily pain in her abdomen and her legs. She has also had a few go arounds with migraines.
Since the last post Avery’s lower abdomen did need more tending to. She now has another form of a vacuum seal dressing on the lower portion of her incision area. This will help her heal from the inside out and reduce the risk of infection here.
The doctors did need to remove a blood clot- which was one of the sources of her abdominal pain. Her drain tube from her liver and pancreas is still present and the doctors continue to monitor its output. Hopefully this will be next on the list for removal.
Ave has undergone several different scans/more CT’s to help rule out other concerns. She had an elevated white blood cell count and had to undergo another procedure due to a psuedo aneurysm. This procedure was successful as of yesterday. Her neck brace will remain on for another 6-8 weeks.
Avery is doing extremely well trying to manage her own pain, but occasionally meds are being administered to help her get through that breakthrough pain.
Avery is still mostly in bed, however daily efforts with pt and ot have been a huge help! Ave has been out in her wheelchair to admire Pittsburgh’s view several times. She does need to sport sunglasses though because her eyes are very sensitive to the lights.
Her memory is slowly coming around also. She has been able to tap into many fun family memories, but still struggles with thinking of some words and details. She has expressed a very small amount of frustration with this, but knows her healing will take time.
Overall Avery is in wonderful spirits! She was over the moon when her best friend Marli came to visit! She also had a few other visitors that helped brighten her days. These motivating visits has helped Avery to She stay strong. She is continuing to make progress with regaining her abilities to move around and allowing herself time to heal.
Thank you to all the prayer warriors and generous souls in our community. The endless support Avery has received is more than we could ever ask for. It’s truly been significant in her journey thus far. We have been reading the e-cards/regular cards being sent to her and it’s simply heartwarming to witness this little girl light up from everyone’s kindness. She was also excited to hear about all the amazing benefits happening in her name. She not only has been sporting her sunglasses, but also her beautiful smile is back!!! A special thanks to all of you for this and even to the folks we don’t know who have sent love and prayers.
Please continue to pray for healing and strength for her as her journey continues ❤️
