The Dexter House

The Dexter House Supportive Sober Living Environment The Dexter House is located at 115 N. Main Street in North East, MD. This renovation project began on March 16, 2013.

-Dexter House-
This house is dedicated to the memory and spirit of our friend Dexter Miller and the knowledge that he was able to find happiness in recovery before he left us on November 4, 2012. A dedicated group of recovering addicts along with members of the local community volunteered over 500 hours of labor refurbishing the house and furnishings. From planting a vegetable garden to refinishin

g the hardwood floors to the interior decor - we collaborated with one foal in mind - to provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for all who live here.

-Who We Are-
Our experience in drug and alcohol addiction and recovery spans over 30 years. Our personal journey has included working with addicts and their family's to gain access to treatment and encourage supportive housing as a long term treatment option along with participation in a 12 Step Program.

-What We Do-
We believe that a supportive sober living environment is the long term solution to this lifetime disease. We have found that the longer an addict is able to stay in a recovering environment the better the chances of long term sobriety. We chose the location for the Dexter House because it is close to public transit, as well as employment and educational opportunities. We will assist in identifying job opportunities and application processes. Residents will be taught living skills such as gardening, cooking, couponning and budget management. We encourage continuing education and personal enrichment programs (community service, parenting classes, fitness and health and wellness programs).

-Why We Do It-
We bring a message of hope to addicts seeking recovery. Sharing our personal experience we are able to prove that sobriety can be achieved and maintained. They can recover from this disease and we will show them how to build a solid foundation for their future by creating a supportive environment that they can go on to be contributing members of society. WE BELIEVE THAT IN RECOVERY ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Sean. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family and friends as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.

Sean was our first resident to reach one year in recovery—a remarkable milestone that spoke to his strength and determination. The friendships he built and the support network he fostered during his time with us remained strong throughout the years.

May he rest in peace.

Baptism and recovery, particularly in addiction recovery, are often seen as significant milestones and points of spiritual renewal. Baptism, a religious rite, symbolizes a cleansing from sin and a new beginning in faith. Similarly, recovery programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and other 12-step models emphasize the need for surrender, acceptance, and a commitment to a new way of life, often involving a spiritual awakening.
Join us this Sunday at 6pm as we offer a service of Baptism incorporating the 12-steps.
May God be with you! Fr. John

Baptism & Recovery
In our Baptismal Covenant, we affirm our belief in our Triune God, we call the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We affirm our commitment to the community of believers across time and space known as the church. We declare God’s love is present and resurrection is real. We then make a series of promises to live our lives in such a way as to reflect God’s plan for humanity.
The 12 steps of Recovery and Baptism share a common thread of spiritual transformation and a recognition of a need for help, with Baptism symbolizing a new beginning and the 12 steps providing a path towards recovery and a closer relationship with Jesus Christ
This Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 6pm, we offer a service of Baptism & Recovery. Join us!
