The Quell Foundation Inc. The Quell Foundation creates a paradigm shift in the care and treatment of people with mental health Advancing training. Bridging gaps in care.

The Quell Foundation serves the public with an intense commitment to:

Fostering awareness. The Quell Foundation aims to educate communities and individuals about the disparities in care and effective treatment protocols afforded to the vulnerable and stigmatized population with mental illness. We strive to definitively reduce the number of suicides, drug overdoses, and the incarceration of our veterans and local community members who suffer with a treatable mental illness. The Quell Foundation endeavors to decriminalize mental illness through advanced training programs designed to offer first responders specialized skills to better recognize and intervene in behavioral, mental and emotional crisis. The Quell Foundation breaks barriers and expands access and the delivery of mental health care services caused by the dearth of mental health care providers. Increasing the talent pipeline through scholarship awards, and advocating for legislative reformation to extend the scope of services provided by clinical behavioral health professionals are essential to achieving our mission.

For many people, silence feels safer than speaking. It is shaped by stigma, misunderstanding, and the fear of being judged.

Today is about responding with empathy and care, and recognizing that support begins long before someone ever says a word.

We’re closing out our Black History Month series by honoring Dr. James P. Comer, a child psychiatrist whose work transformed how schools support children’s growth and well-being.

As the creator of the Comer School Development Program at Yale, Dr. Comer dedicated his career to reshaping school systems and advocating for environments where Black students could thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

His work continues to influence the way we think about education and mental health in schools, and we’re proud to close this series by recognizing the lasting impact of his leadership.

This week invites us to pause and reflect on the stories that often go unseen. Awareness helps us slow down, look closer, and remember that what someone is carrying may not always be visible.

Athletes of all abilities and at every stage of their careers face unique stressors that can impact their mental health. Beyond performance in the game itself, it’s critical that meaningful support exists to care for the athlete as a whole person.

It was an honor for The Quell Foundation to participate in the COACMH Conference, where this message was elevated in such a powerful way. We’re grateful for the new partnerships formed this week and look forward to continuing this work together as we strengthen our collective impact.

We’re continuing our Black History Month series by honoring Jacki McKinney, a powerful advocate whose lived experience shaped lasting change in the mental health space.

After navigating trauma, addiction, and homelessness, she dedicated her life to uplifting others, with a focus on the challenges faced by Black women and their children. Her work helped amplify voices that were too often overlooked and pushed for more inclusive, equitable systems of care.

This month, we’re highlighting Black historical figures who shaped history, culture, and progress in powerful ways. Follow along as we continue the series!

We’re kicking off our Black History Month series by honoring Bebe Moore Campbell, a trailblazing author and mental health advocate who helped push conversations forward in communities too often left out of the mental health narrative.

Her work challenged stigma, amplified voices, and helped create culturally safe spaces for Black individuals to seek support without fear or judgment.

This month, we’re highlighting Black historical figures who shaped history, culture, and progress in powerful ways. Follow along as we continue the series all month long.

As Athlete Mental Health Awareness Week comes to a close, we’re sharing a trailer from our upcoming documentary that pulls back the curtain on what athletes carry, both on and off the field.

Because mental health is part of the story, too. Even when no one’s watching.

Our Story

The Quell Foundation strives to reduce the number of suicides, overdoses, and the incarceration of people living with a mental health illness. We work to accomplish this by encouraging people to share their stories, increasing access to mental health services, providing a pipeline of future mental health care professionals with scholarships, and training first responders to recognize mental health crisis warning signs amongst their own.

There’s a severe stigma associated with mental health illness that prevents those closest to us from getting the help they need. By promoting open, judgment-free dialogue, together we can shatter the stigma and normalize the conversation around mental health.
