In Camphill communities the festival life is an important way to mark the passage of time and changing seasons. Candlemas and Imbolc mark the half way point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Making an "Earth Candle" symbolizes adding human warmth and light to Mother Earth to help wake up light sources underground and prepare the soil for planting.
