Welcome to Twisted Twigs on Gnarled Branches Genealogy (aka Twisted Twigs Genealogy). We enjoy posting genealogy humor memes, helpful genealogy research website links/news and offer top notch affordable research & record retrieval at the National Archives in Washington D.C.. Netflix renovated the way we watch movies. At Twisted Twigs Genealogy, we changed the way researchers receive documents held by the National Archives in 2015. We did this by offering our clients the easiest way to obtain the most genealogical significant files with a faster turnaround time by offering "flat rate" retrieval fees that are still more affordable the National Archives and most retrieval companies. Not surprising that a few new record retrieval companies have copied our website layout in the last few years but Twisted Twigs is the only research & retrieval company in the research room Monday - Friday from open to close just like before the pandemic. We must be doing something right with 3400+ clients and over 7,300 military pension retrieved since relocating to Washington DC Labor Day weekend 2016. With over 84,000 Twigs (aka likes) over a decade (Feb 1, 2012) and over 7,500 genealogical related memes, Twisted Twigs Genealogy on Facebook has become a pleasant place where family historians & genealogists can kick back, relax, laugh, and interact with their fellow genies.

Hi Twigs! I apologize for being so quiet these past few weeks. On February 6th, I shared that I was in Los Angeles for a family emergency. Four days later, my dad passed away, with his partner of 30+ years, Laura, and me holding his hands. I am deeply grateful for all the prayers and positive thoughts you sent when he went into the ICU - they meant more than you know.

I’ll be returning to Washington, D.C. next week. My mom, dad, brother, and grandmother moved into his house four months before I was born (46 years ago). Let’s just say my dad liked to “hold on to things just in case he might need them again” even after my mom moved us to metro Detroit a year later.

In many ways, it’s been a genealogist’s dream: vital records, photographs, and family history treasures everywhere. I’ve been helping Laura (who is nearly 80 herself) with what I’ve started calling “grief cleaning.” Dad couldn’t bear to pack away Grandma’s knick-knacks and furniture, but we’ve carefully boxed them up to sort through together. We’ve both gently hounded him for nearly two decades since Grandma passed, and now here we are.

Thank you again to my fabulous clients for your understanding, your patience, and your kindness while I’ve been slower to respond and less present than usual. It truly means the world to me.
