Consuming poppy seed products can result in a positive op**te IA/Immunoassay screen. Commercially available poppy seeds have been shown to contain 2 to 294 micrograms of morphine and 0.4 to 57 micrograms of codeine per gram of seed. Following poppy seed ingestion, morphine concentrations in the urine generally peak within 3 to 8 hours and may be positive for as long as 48 to 60 hours post-ingestion. These results are true IA/immunoassay positives, though not indicative of op**te abuse.

A new synthetic stimulant, N-isopropyl butylone, is emerging in the illicit drug market as other substances become regulated. Recently detected in multiple overdose cases—often alongside fentanyl, co***ne, or methamphetamine—this drug poses serious and growing public health concerns.

In 2026, fentanyl continues to pose a serious public health risk.

As of December 1, the DEA reports seizing the equivalent of over 347 million potentially lethal doses of fentanyl across the United States.

Fentanyl is often found in counterfeit pills made to look like legitimate prescription medications — and it can take as little as 2 mg, or just one pill, to be deadly.

Awareness and education remain critical tools in preventing overdose and saving lives.
