At the intersections of Brown and Phillips Streets with Boston Neck Rd in downtown Wickford, a mini-roundabout will be installed by Island Department of Transportation with overnight roadwork starting tomorrow evening, September 2, 2025.

The RIDOT project includes installation of new exposed aggregate sidewalks and curb ramps, new granite curbing, a new road surface, all new signage and road striping, and proper drainage systems. All work will be performed at night from 9PM-6AM. An overnight detour will be in effect for Brown Street access during the construction to first include only trucks, then transitioning to a full detour overnight as construction progresses. It is anticipated that the overnight construction will take approximately 60 days to complete.

The proposed mini-roundabout will have two lanes with a width of approximately 28’0” and a circumference of approximately 88’0” to accommodate the limited space at the intersection of Brown Street, Boston Neck Road, and Phillips streets. This will provide a smoother transition through this intersection and reduce traffic backups.
- A temporary overnight detour from Route 102 to Brown St may be required. Motorists will travel north on Tower Hill Road to West Main St. Travel east on West Main St, and south to Brown St.
- A temporary overnight detour from Brown St or Main St to Route 102 may be required. Motorists will travel west on West Main St, turn left onto Tower Hill Rd and travel south to Route 102.
- A temporary overnight detour from Route 138 to Phillips St may be required. Motorists will travel west on Route 138, turn right onto Tower Hill Rd and travel north to Phillips St.

**** Flash freeze warning for tonight ***

The local weather forecast shows quickly dropping temperatures during the late evening hours that may result in a "flash freeze" on the already wet roadways, causing hazardous driving conditions. Crews will be out sanding, but we still recommend staying home, unless it is an emergency. Please use caution on sidewalks and outside stairways, as they most likely will be covered in ice. It is a perfect night to stay home and celebrate Festivus with your family and friends. :)

🔈CERVICOGENIC HEADACHE (CGH) Syndrome

• Chronic hemicranial pain that is referred to the head from either bony structures or myofascial soft tissues of the upper CSP, - OA, C1-3 segments.

• The C1-C3 nerves relay pain signals to the nociceptive nucleus of the head and neck, the trigeminocervical nucleus. This connection
is thought to be the cause for referred pain to the occiput and/or eyes.
• The trigeminocervical nucleus is a region of the upper cervical spinal cord where sensory nerve fibres in the descending tract of the trigeminal nerve (trigeminal nucleus caudalis) are believed to
interact with sensory fibres from the upper cervical roots. This functional convergence of upper cervical and trigeminal sensory pathways allows the bidirectional referral of painful sensations
between the neck and trigeminal sensory receptive fields of the face and head.
• A functional convergence of sensorimotor fibres in the spinal accessory nerve (CN XI) and upper cervical nerve roots ultimately converge with the descending tract of the trigeminal nerve and
might also be responsible for the referral of cervical pain to the head.

Important to differentiate between: Migraine without aura, Tension-type, and Cervicogenic
headache.

• In Cervicogenic Headache, patient may present with combination of:
- movement dysfunction in whole of Csp
- muscle function impairment
- upper cervical individual joint dysfunction
• Pain and tenderness in sensitive structures in the upper neck, fascia in the head, TMJ,
mandible.
• History is important, look for activities involving some repetitive movement
static posture, maybe previous injury.
• Usually Ipsilateral pain but it can be bi-lateral!
• Patient can report unsteadiness and light-headedness, but fainting is a red flag!

🔈 IMPROVE YOUR HIP MOBILITY

The hip joint is also known as a ball and a socket joint. It is where the top of the thigh meets the pelvis. There are certain health conditions such as arthritis, limit the range of motion of the hip joint. Also, strenuous exercise, wearing high heels, and certain leg and back injuries can have a similar effect on this joint. All this affect the motility. However, certain exercises that can help loosen the soft tissue and improve the flexibility and mobility in the hip area are of great help.

The following moves will mobilize the hip flexors, the hip extensors and the hip rotators, all of which contribute to pain-free function and improved athleticism.

Try these exercises postworkout or pre-bedtime for better movement in and out of the gym.

🔒 Hip-Flexor Stretch

1. Stand inside a doorway and turn to face the door frame on your right.
2. Step back with your left foot and place your knee and lower leg on the floor to the left of the wall behind you (place a pad under your left knee if necessary).
3. Slide your left leg backward along the wall until you feel a stretch in the front on your left hip.
4. Raise your chest and torso and extend your arms overhead.
5. Grab the doorjamb behind you and slide your arms as far overhead as possible.
6. Press your lower back toward the doorjamb and hold it there for the duration of the stretch.
7. Breathe deeply, hold for one to two minutes, and repeat on the other side.

🔒 Flex-and-Rotate Hip Stretch

1. Stand facing a thigh-high table, desk, high bench, or the armrest of a couch.
2. Bend your right knee and raise your leg to rest your shin on the table, as if you’re doing a modified pigeon-pose stretch.
3. Bend your torso directly forward over your leg.
4. Press your elevated leg into the table for a five-count, then release for a 10-count, moving more deeply into the stretch. Contract and release five times.
5. Repeat the stretch with your torso rotated gently to the left, and again rotated to the right. Keep your back neutral and avoid rounding forward.
6. Slowly come out of the stretch.
7. Repeat the entire sequence with your left leg on the table.

It is not necessary that everyone can pull up the exercise with ease. It will take time for some, while a few might experience pain and stiffness in the muscles in the beginning. In any case, if the pain persists for long do not delay getting an advice from the health professional. For those with known joint and muscle problems or previous injuries and pain, it is better to seek medical advice before beginning with any exercises.
