Semi-Circle on the Reformer

I have a lot of favorite exercises in my Pilates Reformer practice.. but this one is definitely in the top 5! Here’s why:
➡️spinal articulation… I love the feeling of moving through the full range of my spine… I often describe the action of this exercise as your “bridge in space”.. Bridges in general are great for building strength and practicing moving through your spine
➡️traction of the spine… this exercise has moments where you are using gravity to create traction in your spine (the part where it looks like your hips are dropping to the floor) **lots of benefit comes from adding traction into your movement practice….trust me it feels great and it is really great for your body!

➡️whole body work and engagement… the positioning of the arms overhead and the feet on the foot-bar require you to be fully engaged and working from feet to hands ( and everywhere in between!) to find the control in the exercise. I love an exercise that kind of demands that you find all the work.
➡️ I love anything that makes me ( and my clients🙂) work over head … it helps to build functional strength and mobility so you can do things like put a box in a high cupboard or lift your suitcase into an overhead bin!!)

PS… this is not a “new to Pilates exercise!” If you have been practicing the Pilates reformer sequence and haven’t done it yet… You are likely working your way toward it. It is an exercise that takes a combination of strength, mobility and understanding of Pilates fundamental ideas and concepts to do safely and well…

Pilates Cadillac Teacher Training is coming to Rivercity Pilates ✨

This NCPT-recognized program, presented in partnership with , will take place over two immersive weekends:
📅 March 7–8 & March 14–15

You’ll train on the Cadillac (Trapeze Table), Tower, Springboard and Pole systems, learning the full classical and modified repertoire — with a strong focus on:
• safety
• smart spring & bar use
• programming for rehab, aging bodies, and athletic clients

The Cadillac becomes a true movement laboratory — a space for precision, creativity, and meaningful results.

I can’t tell you how many people come back to Pilates after going to PT for an injury or pain they are dealing with!

Here’s how the conversation usually goes…

I was having this pain so I went to PT. The exercises I was doing and that they sent me home with were essentially Pilates exercises. They were “Pilates exercises” without the control, the breath and the picky alignment work, but they were essentially Pilates exercises. I decided…why aren’t I practicing Pilates on a regular basis?! I always loved Pilates and clearly it is good for my body!!

Our answer….you are correct! Getting back to your regular Pilates practice will absolutely help you create and maintain uniform development ( ie help you build strength and mobility in a balanced way) in your body, likely helping you eliminate pain and discomfort caused by those imbalances. You’ll always get guidance from us on how to best adapt and practice the exercises for whatever is going on in your body.
