In addition to being pride month, June is also Men’s Health Month (and PTSD Awareness Month)
Let’s look at some stats:
❗️an estimated 6 million men struggle with depression in the U.S.
❗️men represent 78% of su***des and are 4x more likely to die from su***de than women
❗️1 in 10 men suffer from rage and struggle to manage anger
❗️1 in 5 men develop alcohol dependency during their lifetime
❗️more than 3 million U.S. men struggle with anxiety
❗️60% of all men experience significant trauma in their lifetimes, and an estimated 4% develop PTSD
And yet, men are not asking for help or seeking treatment as often as others.
I would argue that this is largely due to stigma and societal pressures.
The good news is that THIS CAN BE CHANGED!
Change starts with education and open communication. Check in with the men in your life and let them know that it’s ok to accept support.
