I was going to go with the traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach as a life coach and integrate a little positive psychology. After more careful research and study, I opted for a different approach. Psychology, traditionally deals with mental disorders and minimizing them at best, through therapy. Positive psychology, founded by Martin Seligman, focuses on the positive aspects of psychology and improving the positive attributes of people and not just trying to get rid of the negative aspects of a person's character. As a result, I decided to focus on that, using a strengths based approach, or taking a person's strengths and helping them to further develop them and overcome obstacles as well as create a framework for them to better themselves. While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on what's wrong, there is use for it in positive psychology and a strengths based approach. I feel like this is an approach that will be different from most life coaches. Thoughts anyone?
