Lucille "Lucy" Jean Dougherty, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and friend, passed away on September 7, 2025, at the age of 82, at the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on July 15, 1943, in Gary, Indiana, to Michael and Helen (Roszkowski) Nadolski, she was proud of her Polish heritage and took great pride in her ancestry.

After graduating from Gary Tolleston High School in 1961, Lucy began her professional journey at NIPSCO. It was during her time at NIPSCO that she met the love of her life, Robert K. "Bob" Dougherty. Their relationship blossomed, leading to their marriage on May 14, 1966. Lucy dedicated herself to her family, spending time at home to raise her two cherished children, Sara and Tim. Her passion for creativity and commitment to nurturing her family eventually inspired her to return to the workforce. She ventured into her own cake decorating business, where she shared her culinary talents and joy with others. Later, she continued her career at the Silver Lake Vet Clinic and subsequently worked for several years at Stumps in South Whitley before retiring.

Lucy was a devoted member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in North Manchester, reflecting her deep faith as a guiding force throughout her life. She was also known for her vibrant personality, often bringing laughter as a skilled jokester and an exceptional cook. Her involvement with the Red Hat Society showcased her spirit and zest for life, where she enjoyed sharing good times with friends.

The loving memory of Lucille Dougherty will be forever cherished by her daughter, Sara (Bill) D’Andrea, North Manchester; son, Tim Dougherty, Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Jack Dougherty, Luke Dougherty, Resto D’Andrea and Clare D’Andrea; and brother Joe Nadolski, Houston, Texas. Helen Maxine Blanchard, born on August 3, 1926, in Whitley County, Indiana, to Clifton J. and Irene A. (Krider) Geiger, passed away on August 29, 2025, at the Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Indiana.

After graduating from Collins High School in 1944. Following high school, she married Bob on May 2, 1947, and together they shared a loving partnership that lasted fifty-eight years, raising two daughters, Cindy and Cheryl. Tragically, their daughter Cheryl passed away on August 20, 1997, and Bob later left this world on December 9, 2005, leaving behind cherished memories for Helen and their family.

Professionally, Helen had a notable career that began with managing the Columbia City Dairy Queen from 1969 to 1974. Following that, she and Bob took a bold step into entrepreneurship by owning and operating the Corner Cupboard Restaurant from 1974 to 1984, located west of North Manchester on the corner of highways 114 and 15. After their venture into the restaurant industry, Helen continued to serve the community at the North Manchester Dairy Queen, and later took on a role as a cook for Manchester Community Schools, where she retired in 1997 after eight years of dedicated service.

Helen’s commitment to her faith was evident throughout her life. She grew up in the United Methodist Church and sustained her devotion by remaining active in her congregations at Larwill United Methodist Church and then the North Manchester United Methodist Church, where she was a cherished member.

Known for her pleasant demeanor, classy style, and strong will, Helen possessed a giving and servant’s heart that endeared her to many. She took immense pride in her family, loving them dearly, and instilled in them values of kindness and compassion. Helen enjoyed her walks, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.

The loving memory of Helen Blanchard will be forever cherished by her daughter, Cindy J. Anglin, Warsaw; grandchildren, Christopher (Carissa) Jackson, Stephanie (Joshua) Lutes, Amanda (Jesse) Poe, and Nathan (Beth) Jackson; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Rugg, Stroh, Indiana. Grover Franklin Archer, a revered member of the banking community and a beloved figure in the lives of many, passed away on August 27, 2025, at the Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Indiana. He was born on January 7, 1940, in Martin County, Indiana, to Stanford Earl and Zelda Madge (Howell) Archer, and he carried the values of his upbringing throughout his life and career.

Education was a foundation of Grover's journey. He attended West Baden Schools for eleven years before the consolidation with French Lick High School, where he completed his education. He further advanced his knowledge by attending Bolder School of Banking in Colorado and the Wisconsin School of Banking. Throughout his career, Grover demonstrated a dedication to professional development by continuously pursuing additional banking courses.

Grover dedicated his professional life to banking, steadfastly ascending through the ranks to become Senior Vice President and Area President in the banking world. His career path included time at a bank in Indianapolis before settling in North Manchester, where he served for eighteen years at Indiana Lawrence Bank. From North Manchester, Grover’s commitment to his work continued for thirty-five years in Anderson, where he made significant contributions to the financial landscape of the community.

Grover was united in marriage to Janice Marlene Cabel on June 16, 1961. Together, they cherished sixty-four wonderful years, nurturing a beautiful family that includes their two beloved daughters, Jennifer and Jacqueline. Grover held his faith close to his heart, finding solace and community at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a dedicated member.

Outside of work, Grover had a passion for golf that began in his teenage years. He fondly recalled his days caddying in French Lick and later embraced the sport himself, where he enjoyed many memorable moments on the course. Beyond golf, Grover cherished camaraderie and enjoyed gathering with friends in North Manchester for their poker club. Known for his great sense of humor and his ability to connect with people, he left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Grover proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserves, demonstrating his commitment to his country and fellow Americans.

The loving memory of Grover Archer will be forever cherished by his wife, Janice Archer, North Manchester; daughter, Jennifer Lynn (Jack Larimore) Archer, Anderson; granddaughter, Rhiannon Nicole Diane Fetz, Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. Veta Joy Holle, a beloved member of her Laketon community, passed away on August 21, 2025, at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 29, 1932, to Archie M. and Mary E. (Hackworth) Caudill, in Riceville, Johnson County, Kentucky, Veta lived a life marked by love, faith, and unwavering dedication to those around her.

Veta graduated from Laketon High School in 1950, and furthered her education at Marion College in Marion, Indiana, where she studied for two years. Her career began at Singer Controls, where she worked from 1965 to 1970. She later dedicated her efforts to the Thomas Family Center from 1978 to 1986, and subsequently joined Heckman Bindery for the Canteen Corporation Vending Company, where she worked for a few years. In 1981, Veta took a bold step and founded Holle Tax Service, a venture that she operated with pride.

On June 18, 1954, Veta united in marriage with Charles F. Holle, who predeceased her on September 3, 2006. Together, they raised two children, Duane and Mary. Veta was known for her profound faith and was a devoted member of the Laketon Wesleyan Church from the age of 17. Her service to the church included over twenty-five years as a song leader, teaching Sunday School, and conducting Vacation Bible School. A woman of strong convictions, she shared her faith through countless conversations, bringing many to know the Lord. Veta also embarked on mission trips to Haiti, further expressing her commitment to helping others.

In addition to her spiritual contributions, Veta was actively involved in her community. She was a member of the Laketon American Legion Auxiliary Sunset Unit 402, the Red Hat Society, and held the title of Honorary member of the Laketon Fire Department. Always wearing a warm smile, her kind and giving heart touched the lives of many. Veta found joy in gardening, tending to her beautiful flowers, cooking, canning, and sitting on her porch while watching the world go by.

The loving memory of Veta Holle will be forever cherished by her daughter, Mary (David) Burnette, Laketon; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Tea Holle, Huntington. Veta was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Chester, Hershel, Archie Jr., Hebern, Lester, and Clyde Caudill; sisters, Lena Ruby Hackworth, Goldia Caudill, and Oleta Caudill; and grandson, Buddy Holle.

Judith "Judy" Kay Fields, born on November 6, 1948, in Lebanon, Indiana, to Wayne Eugene and Dawn Noreen (Klein) Wright, passed away on August 22, 2025, at The Waters of Wabash West in Wabash, Indiana. Judy's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, vibrant spirit, and generous heart.

A proud graduate of Hobart High School in 1966, Judy furthered her education by obtaining a degree in Business Administration from Ivy Tech. Her professional journey was diverse and fulfilling; she dedicated ten years as a Dispatcher for a trucking company, lent her organizational skills to Cardinal Services, and served as the church secretary at Sweetwater Assembly of God. Judy's passion for education led her to work as a substitute teacher at Manchester Community Schools for five years.

Judy was united in marriage to Charles R. Fields Sr. on December 31, 1971. Their journey together was filled with love until his passing on July 21, 2001.

Judy's creativity was boundless; she was not only a talented baker and cake decorator but also expressed her artistic flair through painting and sewing. Among her proudest achievements was the creation of her daughters’ wedding and bridesmaid dresses, showcasing her loving dedication to her family.

Her faith played a central role in Judy's life. As a devoted member of the Christian Fellowship Church in North Manchester, she taught Sunday school and was involved in a clown ministry, bringing joy and smiles to countless children. Judy was known for her big heart, always willing to give to others even in times of personal struggle, firmly believing that "God would take care of her." She also had a unique practice of writing to every President since Carter, offering her prayers and support.

John Bacon Curtis, a beloved educator and devoted pastor, passed away on August 23, 2025, at the Timbercrest Healthcare Center in North Manchester. Born on December 11, 1943, to Theodore Roosevelt and Meta (Bacon) Curtis, in Racine, Wisconsin, John’s journey through life was characterized by his deep commitment to faith, family, and community service.

In pursuit of his academic goals, John graduated from Horlick High School in 1963 and furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, where he earned his degree in Education. Driven by his faith, he pursued additional studies and obtained his Masters of Divinity degree from the University of Dubuque, Iowa. His educational endeavors reflected his commitment not only to personal growth but also to the spiritual development of others.

John began his professional career as a high school history teacher at Case High School in Racine, where he nurtured young minds for ten years. His passion for education and an undeniable calling to serve the Lord led him to transition into a deeply fulfilling role as a pastor. For thirty years, he dedicated his life to preaching and supporting his congregations. He served at the Congregational Christian Church in North Manchester from 1977 to 1996 and continued his pastoral journey at the Plymouth Congregational Christian Church in Plainfield, Illinois, from 1996 to 2006. Throughout his pastoral career, John was instrumental in guiding many to embrace the Christian faith, embodying a spirit of compassion and service that left an indelible mark on those he ministered to.

John’s personality shone through in his kindness and thoughtfulness. Even in times of failing health, he remained focused on helping those around him and shared his warmth and humor with everyone he encountered. He played a pivotal role in transforming the Thomas Marshall building into the Town Life Center in North Manchester, demonstrating his dedication to community betterment.

A passionate football fan, John held a particular affection for the Green Bay Packers. His interest in military history was evident through his collection of miniature soldiers, especially those from the Napoleonic Era. His diverse interests enriched his life and provided engaging conversations for those lucky enough to cross his path.

John will be remembered fondly as a loving husband, father, and friend. He married Ann Spicer on February 25, 1967, and together they had three children: Jeff, Carole, and Jamie. Later in life, he married Brigitte Curtis on November 10, 2001, who brought him alongside more cherished years of companionship.

The loving memory of John Curtis will be forever cherished by his children, Jeff (Julie) Curtis, North Manchester, Carole (Richard) Weller, Plainfield, Illinois, and Jamie (Lori) Curtis, North Manchester; grandchildren, Jimmy (Kaylee) Curtis, Zac (Abby Hesting) Curtis, Cody Curtis, Katherine Weller, and Jordan Weller; and great-granddaughter, Valkyrie Curtis. Burton "Burt" Ray Sipe, age 75, of North Manchester, Indiana, passed away at his home on August 18, 2025. The son of Paul Donnel and Esta Virginia (Atkinson) Sipe, Burt was born February 20, 1950 in Portland, Indiana.

A proud graduate of Portland High School, Burt had an enriching life filled with personal connections and cherished moments. On April 17, 1976, he married the love of his life, Kathy J. Coldren. Together, they built a loving home in Decatur before relocating to North Manchester, where they could be close to their two beloved daughters, Jenny and Andrea, and their grandchildren. Kathy later passed away on November 27, 2020 after forty-four years of marriage.

Burt proudly served his country in the National Guard before embarking on a long and successful professional journey. He began his career at United Telephone Company, which underwent several name changes throughout the years—transforming into Sprint, Embarq, and ultimately CenturyLink. His career spanned over forty years, culminating in his retirement in 2012, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and service.

For over four decades, he gathered with his "poker buddies," sharing laughter while enjoying their favorite card games. He actively supported his sons-in-law by keeping stats for the Manchester High School football team, Northfield High School football team and maintaining the scorebook for Manchester University sports. Burt was also a member of the North Manchester Moose and was a long-time member of the Eel River Shriners, Mizpah Shrine in Fort Wayne, and Deming Lodge 88, North Manchester. His contributions to both organizations reflected his generous spirit and the importance he placed on giving back to those around him. Burt's adventurous side was apparent in his love for riding his Gold Wing motorcycle, a hobby that took him on many journeys and adventures.

The loving memory of Burt Sipe will be forever cherished by his daughters, Jenny (Brandon) Baker and Andrea (Rick) Espeset, both of North Manchester; brother, Billy “Bill” (Linda) Sipe, Portland, Indiana; sister, Barbara (Jim) McDonald, Hardinsburg, Indiana; and grandchildren, Addi Baker, Ethan Espeset, McKelvey Espeset, Elli Baker, Briggs Baker, and Finley Espeset. Nancy (West) Coble, 89, born October 25, 1935 at home in North Manchester, to Glenn and Mayme (Clark) West, passed away August 14, 2025 at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Indiana.

Throughout her high school years, Nancy cultivated a strong work ethic, contributing her talents at Peabody Senior Living and Landis Drug Store. After graduating from Central High School in 1953, she began her career at General Telephone Company. However, after five years, she chose to dedicate herself to her family as a stay-at-home mother. After her time at home, Nancy began at the News Journal and Manchester Tool and Die, then went back to Peabody as a part time receptionist and retired in 2007. Nancy was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, Nancy also held membership in Ivy Chapter #69 Order of Eastern Star.

On June 25, 1954, Nancy married Herbert H. Coble, and together they embraced the joys of parenthood with their two daughters, Karen and Laura. Herbert passed away on April 26, 2014. After sixty years of marriage, Nancy was forced to find a new normal in life.

A graduate of Manchester High School, Ron embarked on a career that included notable roles at Singer Controls, the North Manchester Parks Department, Manchester Community Schools, and ultimately, Riverbridge Electric, where he dedicated seventeen years of his life. His keen expertise in HVAC systems and plumbing was matched only by his unwavering commitment to perfection in every task he undertook.

On May 21, 1983, Ron married Sherri Long, and together they created a family with two sons, Ryan and Chance. Ron was known throughout the community for his outgoing personality and knack for engaging conversations; he had a remarkable ability to discuss a broad array of topics with anyone he met. A man of his word, Ron embodied commitment and honor in all aspects of his life. His thirst for knowledge was evident to all who knew him, as was his deep appreciation for people and experiences alike.

An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Ron often could be seen riding around town, embracing the freedom and joy that came with it. He cherished time spent kayaking on local rivers, where he found serenity in nature. Ron was an active member of several organizations, including the United Methodist Church in North Manchester, the North Manchester Moose, and the Izaak Walton League. His passion for shooting led him to join a shooting club in Warsaw, where friends affectionately referred to him as "Rambling Ron."

The loving memory of Ron Shockey II will be forever cherished by his wife of forty-two years, Sherri Shockey, North Manchester; sons, Ryan (Katherine) Shockey, Marshall, Michigan and Chance (Amber) Shockey, Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Isabel, Maeve, Emerie, Ronald “Tripp”, and C.J. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Ronald J. Shockey I; and two sisters, Karen J. Buzzard and Katherine J. Morris.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Ron Shockey at 5:00 p.m. on August 30, 2025 at Metzger Garden Event Center, 11758 State Road 13 North, North Manchester, Indiana. It will be an hour of sharing followed by a band. It is a time for people to come and remember the good times with Ron.

Betty Ann Young

Betty Ann Young, born on December 26, 1933, to Daniel and Carolina (Nail) Meehan, in Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on August 12, 2025, at Parkview Wabash Hospital. Betty was a lifelong resident of the area, known for her unwavering faith and dedication to her family and community.

Betty graduated from LaSalle High School in South Bend, Indiana, in 1951, a stepping stone that led her into a fulfilling career. For thirty-two years, she served as the Secretary for the Wabash-Miami Area Program, where her voice became synonymous with care and support as she answered the phone with the words, "Wabash-Miami Area Program for exceptional children."

On July 4, 1952, Betty married Harold Young, and together they embarked on a journey filled with family, hard work, and family. Their union was blessed with five children, and throughout her life, Betty exemplified dedication to her family. She was a kind-hearted and strong-willed woman, known for her unwavering faith and commitment to her community. Her faith in the Lord was a guiding force, and she was an active member of both Bachelor Creek Church of Christ in Wabash and Peabody Chapel.

Betty's personality shone brightly; she was thoughtful and hardworking, leaving an indelible mark as a true matriarch. Her influence extended beyond her own family as she took pride in teaching her children essential life skills through 4-H, imparting the art of sewing and cooking. She embraced her role as a devoted daughter, providing care for her mother with love and respect.

Betty found joy in being social, relishing her time at Peabody Retirement Community where she enjoyed playing cards and Bingo, bringing smiles to those around her. Her thoughtful nature and genuine warmth were evident in her interactions, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

The loving memory of Betty Young will be forever cherished by her children, Alan (Karen) Young, North Manchester, Kenny (Judy McIntire) Young, Upland, Mary Jo Young, Fort Wayne, Mark (Lisa Kaminski) Young, Carmel, and Sheri (Jim) Lose, Williamsburg, Virginia; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Young; brothers, John Meehan, James Meehan, and Frank Farr; and sisters, Dorothy Michael, Helen Morin, Myra Meehan, and an Anna Catherine.

Family and friends may call Friday, August 15, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 with calling beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, Indiana with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating.
