When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

Our peony bushes are in full bloom! We are excited and thankful for the natural encouragement that having live flowers provides and to have options to share in the evidence of goodness in so many tangible ways.

Fun fact: we work to have something dead, something fake, and something beautifully alive in our treatment spaces. It reminds us of the need to be active with sorting internal information and how working with trauma on the inside has components that fits into each of those three buckets.

Here at Footnotes, we are dedicated to helping people heal from trauma.

Post-Traumatic Stress is a real and potential outcome of trauma. When any event is too big to process at the time of the event, the distress of the event can easily remain stored and or hidden in our brain and body system.

During the month of June, we act to raise awareness about PTSD. While very challenging to work with and recover from, there are ways we all can help those who are stuck or struggling.

What can we do to help support PTSD survivors?

🌱 Educate Ourselves - Learn about PTSD and its symptoms HERE: https://traumaresearchfoundation.org/
🌱 Facilitate Supportive Environments for Growth
- practice real curiosity in your active listening, patience, and compassion with people and things you may not understand or understand well.
- encourage seeking professional assistance through quality trauma-based mental health care, know who is doing good work in your community!
🌱 Donate - Footnotes Trauma Foundation provides scholarships for military and sexual abuse mental health trauma recovery work https://lnkd.in/gwjXVKem
🌱 End the Stigma - learn to speak openly about traumatic events and PTSD especially with those you care about. Compounding stress or traumatic stress are normal physiological responses to non-normal circumstances. Healing is really real and really available! You and those you love have the option to pursue health, wholeness and healing.

June 5th is World Environment Day 🌎

Here at Footnotes, we understand that nature and mental health have a unique relationship with one another. Our office has multiple plants in each room to remind and encourage us all about growth, goodness, grace and beauty even in the midst of complex healing and deep challenges.

Today, we encourage you to take a mindful moment outside. Breathe deeply. Notice the world around you. Pause and attend to the sunset and the light on the leaves.

Consider taking small steps to care for our planet and yourself:

🌎 pick up any trash you see while outside
🌎 recycle paper, plastic, and aluminum products
🌎 reuse containers and repurpose old materials
🌎 support and plan a visit to local state parks

When we nurture our environment, we nurture ourselves. As we give, we also receive. 🌿
