The Year of the Snake is upon us. It is predicted to be a time of growth, transformation and new beginnings. It promises to be a prosperous year with new beginnings and beneficial growth. We are urged to dedicate time to active hobbies which will support our mental and physical health.

We offer many “hobbies” here that are good for mental and physical health. If you have not tried Yoga you are invited. If that is not your Jam try our Tai chi classes or Karate with us.

If you are in need of some rest to support your mental or physical health or recovery from some of your active hobbies it would be our pleasure to assist you with acupuncture services.

We look forward to the year of growth, and partnering with you through the year.

Good July To you all! I hope the Independence Day holiday found you with some good family time wonderful memories and that we are safely on the other side. Summer has officially begun, the heat is now in full summer effect.
On my time out on the fourth I like to “measure” the corn in the fields around the area. The old saying “knee high by the fourth of July”. According to my observations this weekend corn is doing well-in areas where it has been watered. Other areas were looked a bit more anemic. The saying “the grass is greenest where we water it” is applicable in a lot of areas of life. We feel the best when we tend to (Water) the areas of our life and health that are needed. Sometimes that is dealing with the pain so we can enjoy activity again. Other times it is talking to someone to deal with the anxiety. In financial areas we may need to make a plan to create a specific outcome. We tend to the area and find green grass as it were. Our health is best when we tend to it, create a plan to feel better. If you are looking to take steps on that plan it would be my honor to be a part of your plan, to assist in tending to your health needs.

With fall in full effect we are here again. This time of year can be one that many people see more stresses and related things in life. This of course can be attributed to holiday season stress working to meet obligations and expectations of family. That surely can be difficult, but some of this is related to the changing of the season.
The grey days of November definitely did this to me during my days in university. November was the worst month for me and I thought I enjoyed the lights of the Christmas season but this became an important part of my mood routine of the year. As I learned more about traditional Medicines the cycles of the seasons became a guiding principle for my self-care regime throughout the year. Yes the shortened days should guide us to turn inward, rest more going to bed earlier just like the sun. For me foods are adjusted, less raw salads, more warm soups adding squashes which I was not a fan of when I was younger. My exercise routine changes some through the year with more qi gong in the fall and winter months.
Through the study of traditional Chinese medicine we find that this also is not just something for the fall, but our choices can affect the seasons ahead as well, so more rest now can lead to a fruitful spring.

While we cannot help you with family obligations perhaps the seasonal and holiday stress can be improved here, call us to find out how.

Lion or Lamb…? I always get more hopeful with March. The days are longer the sun is warmer and the snow… can be brutal or not… but the warmer days of spring are ahead. Either way we are here.

The other day a patient introduced me to a new concept. This person saw a part of the facility that they had not noticed before. They described it as Hyg·ge /ˈh(y)o͞oɡə,ˈho͝oɡə/

Used as a noun
a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).

Meik Wiking, the author of The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets To Happy Living You know hygge when you feel it, but that some of the key ingredients are togetherness, relaxation, indulgence, presence, and comfort. “The true essence of hygge is the pursuit of everyday happiness and it’s basically like a hug, just without the physical touch,”
According to the 2016 World Happiness Report, Denmark clocks in as the world’s happiest country and Wiking believes that the positive stat can be attributed to hygge.

I was and am quite flattered that this was used as a descriptor of the atmosphere here. From the beginning we have worked to create a calm, cozy, non-pretentious safe environment that facilitates rest, healing and promotes the best of us.

Lion or Lamb this month if you need a bit of “Hygge” please give us a call.

Gun Hei Fat Choi
The year of the (Metal) Ox is upon us! The Ox empowers us to stay the course in the face of unrelenting change. If our persistence is constant, we will emerge from 2021 stronger and more capable than ever before. While the pace of progress may seem frustratingly slow, take credit for the small victories, embrace the little moments of love and connectedness that continue to bind us together. May 2021 inspire you to persist!
That is the wish from my professional association but I will pass it along as it felt spot on for the New Year. I am looking forward to sharing 2021 with you all.
