Symptoms that may sound strange or embarrassing to you but make total sense to me as a pelvic floor PT (and what they make me think of right away)!

-Golf ball feeling in the re**um (pudendal neuralgia)
-Pain in the butt getting up from chair (coccydynia)
-Feels like hitting a wall during intimacy (vaginismus)
-Having to wipe a lot after a BM (a**l sphincter weakness)
-Ball in the v@gina (prolapse OR muscle spasm)
-Burning pain down there during intimacy (vestubulitis/ vulvodynia)

Do any of these sound familiar to you? Letโ€™s chat! ๐Ÿ’œ

Which magnesium supplement I usually recommend to my patients for chronic constipation as a pelvic floor PT and why it confuses a lot of people (even doctors)!

Many of you have probably heard by now that magnesium citrate can be helpful for treating constipation by drawing more water into the colon.

And youโ€™ve also probably heard that magnesium glycinate is great for stress, sleep and reducing increased muscle tension by calming the nervous system.

This is what confuses people - I usually end up recommending my patients try magnesium glycinate to help with their constipation BEFORE trying magnesium citrate.

This is because most of my patients are ALSO dealing with things like increased stress levels, poor sleep, and/ or an overactive (tense) pelvic floor. In other words, their nervous system is stuck in a state of fight or flight. The opposite of fight or flight is rest and digest. So, if a woman is stuck in fight or flight, her body is not going to be able to complete the digestion process well. Additionally, if her muscles are tense, she may have difficult BMs because pelvic floor muscle relaxation is ESSENTIAL for elimination.

So when I recommend magnesium glycinate for their constipation in this type of situation, 9/10 times they get the stress and sleep benefits and ALSO get better bowel movements! (This is of course in addition to the therapy treatments we are doing) By looking at the whole person in front of me, I am treating the systems, not just the symptoms ๐Ÿ’œ

Posture isnโ€™t about standing stiff or forcing yourself upright, itโ€™s about support and balance. ๐Ÿ’œ

When your pelvis, rib cage, and head are aligned, your pelvic floor can do its job with less strain and more ease. Small posture adjustments like stacking your โ€œdomesโ€ (pelvic floor, diaphragm, crown of your head), then lengthening through the crown of your head can make a meaningful difference in how your body feels throughout the day.

Support your posture, and you support your pelvic floor.

A gentle breath for anyone holding tension. ๐Ÿ’œ

This breathing pattern invites the body out of protection and into ease:
๐Ÿ’œ Keep the chest relaxed
๐Ÿ’œ Let the breath move your pelvic floor downward as you
inhale

No forcing. No pushing.
Just space, release, and calm.

Sometimes healing starts with a single breath.

Posture matters for your pelvic floor. ๐Ÿ’œ

Try this simple alignment check:
๐Ÿ’œ Stack your rib cage over your pelvis
๐Ÿ’œ Stack your head over both
๐Ÿ’œ Imagine a string lifting you gently through the crown of your head

This helps reduce unnecessary strain and supports better pelvic floor and core function.
Follow for more pelvic health tips.

Stress doesnโ€™t just affect your mind, it affects your pelvic floor. ๐Ÿ’œ

When the nervous system stays in fight-or-flight, the pelvic floor often guards by tightening.
Diaphragmatic breathing helps regulate this response by calming the system, reducing muscle holding, and restoring natural coordination between breath and pelvic floor.

A calmer system supports:
๐Ÿ’œ Reduced tension
๐Ÿ’œ Decreased pain
๐Ÿ’œ Improved bladder control

Breathing isnโ€™t โ€œjust breathingโ€ itโ€™s a powerful therapeutic tool.
