This before, and after speaks to my heart! My passion for helping individuals with melasma runs deep due to my personal experience. I have dealt with melasma since I was a teenager, so it makes me extremely happy to help others, clear their skin, improve their skin quality and build their confidence. This patient has undergone combination therapies, including prescription medications, products from my Dr. Roberta Skin Science skincare line and laser treatments in office. We are both thrilled with her progress and expect to see further improvement with continued therapy. What is Bell’s Palsy? It is sudden weakness in the muscles on one half of the face. Thought to be a reaction to a viral infection (but also pregnancy) but also has been reported secondary to high stress levels (let’s just say I have been working long hours and 3 under of the age of 3 “after work hours” 😆 doesn’t help). One of the key strategies is catching this early to minimize severity and duration. Studying internal medicine prior to Dermatology I noticed that my taste buds were a bit off over the weekend, I started to have some ear discomfort which we know is related to facial nerve inflammation exiting out of the parotid gland by the ear, and on Monday night, I started to feel heaviness and drooping of my left face. As I knew the signs and symptoms I immediately started Valtrex and prednisone and I’m happy to report that now three days in my weakness the paralysis has not progressed and frankly has slightly improved due to the anti-inflammatory effects of the prednisone. I’ve been trying my best to work my muscles to stimulate the facial nerve and have been diligent about my daily prescribed medications. My case is quite mild, and I expect it will be a short duration due to lack of significant progression over the last 72 hours. I share this in hopes that someone who is reading this can help themselves or others around them recognize the first signs and symptoms, which will help them to heal much more quickly.

A simple earlobe repair can be a huge confidence booster. This patient had a full tear which I repaired in less than 30 minutes. Stitches were left in place for just over a week and her ear can be repierced in 8 weeks.

Today marks 5 years since my mom left. Each year I like to take time to remember her and the love she shared with me. She is the reason I am the person I am today. She taught me to be kind, to be strong, to be honest, to be loyal and to be selfless. This picture sets the tone for who she was- a happy, kind and loving soul. She raised me with endless love and affection and I know that her energy lives in me and my children.

A touch of volume but mainly focusing on hydration. For Amanda’s treatment I combined 2 fillers; 1 for hydration and 1 for a touch of volume. I also used a small amount of hylenex to flatten an area that was a bit fuller and uneven from an outside treatment. This is the beauty of facial art. Various techniques and various products can be combined to maximize results. Not all lips are the same, and the key to natural enhancement is following the natural shape of the lip, and focusing on more hydration and facial balancing rather than over volumizing.

In 2022 I published a consensus paper describing recommended protocols using Hyperdilute Radiesse. This was one of of the first of its kind and really helped to pave the way for other injectors on how to best utilize this treatment. I am proud to say that I have been using this technique for many many years, even prior to its rise in popularity here in the United States. This has been a game changer for the aesthetic industry, adding an additional technique for regenerative medicine. What I love most about this treatment has there’s no downtime and not only doesn’t make areas appear rejuvenated it actually improves skin quality by improving the thickness, firmness, and tightness of the skin.
