A periodontist is a dentist who has furthered his studies to increase his/her knowledge in non-surgical as well as surgical techniques involving implants, and the tissues around the teeth including the gums and bones of the jaw. With this knowledge, the key is to stop present disease, prevent further disease, and restore form, function and aesthetics that have been lost. In addition to solid academic credentials, Dr. Goldberg and his staff pride themselves on treating you as an individual. Our basic credo has always been a very simple one — No matter how big or small your problem is, we plan to treat you with the same courteous care, time and respect that we would want if we were being treated.

In honor of dental hygiene appreciation month,here is just one case showing how hard it is to detect and remove subgingival calculus, one of many treatments our hygienists perform. This patient did not know he had tartar stuck under the gum, but with gentle retraction we could visualize the extent of subgingival calculus hiding just below the gumline.
