DNA tests have become ubiquitous in the past few years. While many find the ethnicity charts to be their first interest, often you will find surprise relatives that you did not realize you had. Many DNA testing websites will assume your relationship with these matches, but unfortunately this can cause further confusion rather than clarity. There is a wide range of options for how you are related to various relatives at various degrees. There are also many free and low cost options for learning about this process before reaching out.
