If your brain won’t just relax, there’s a reason.

What we call overthinking is often your nervous system doing its best to protect you.

When life once felt unsafe or unpredictable, your brain learned that scanning for danger helped you prepare.

That same system can stay switched on—looping through every outcome—long after the danger is gone.

So if you catch yourself replaying conversations or second-guessing decisions, it’s not proof you’re broken.

It’s proof you adapted.

You can thank that part of you for trying to help, then gently remind it: we’re safe now.

Today we pause to honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day — a day of remembering, gratitude, and truth-telling.

This land carries stories that began long before us.
The healing practices we use today come from many lineages, including Indigenous traditions that have always understood the connection between body, spirit, and community.

As a counseling community, we can honor this day by:
🌿 Learning whose land we live and work on (native-land.ca)
🌿 Supporting Indigenous-led healing and advocacy efforts
🌿 Listening before speaking — and letting that listening shape how we show up

Healing isn’t owned by any one system. It’s shared, relational, and deeply tied to land and belonging.

Let today be a quiet thank-you, a step toward accountability, and a reminder that every act of care can also be an act of respect.

🌿 Parts Work in Therapy

When you feel “at war” inside, parts work helps you understand why.

We all have parts — the critic, the caretaker, the avoider — each trying to protect us in their own way. In therapy, we listen to them with curiosity instead of judgment.

Over time, people discover a calmer, more compassionate Self that can hold all those parts together.

You’re not broken. You’re made of many wise parts trying to help.

💬 Ever notice different “voices” or sides of yourself show up?

🗓️ October 10 — World Mental Health Day
Each year, this day reminds us that mental health is health. No one should have to struggle in silence, and no one’s pain should be minimized because it’s invisible.

This year’s global theme focuses on mental health in humanitarian emergencies, a reminder that safety and stability are inseparable from wellbeing. Whether you’re rebuilding after loss, holding space for others, or just trying to make it through the day—you’re not alone in that effort.

Take a breath. Check in on someone. Ask what support would help right now.
Small gestures create real change. 💚

🧠 Take care of your mind—because it takes care of you.

So much of mental health is built on simple, steady habits:
✨ Managing stress before it manages you.
✨ Speaking your truth and letting it be heard.
✨ Making time for the things that remind you who you are.

Today’s a good day to start small and start kind. 💙

If you’re struggling, you don’t have to do it alone—help is out there.
