We asked Abe Anderson, CRNA, our director of anesthesia, why he's still here after almost a decade.
His answer says everything.
If you've ever wondered whether it's worth staying somewhere and building something, Abe's story is worth reading.

Why I Stayed in North Platte
By Abe Anderson, CRNA, director of anesthesia
When I first came to North Platte nearly nine years ago, I didn't expect to stay. Like many CRNAs, I assumed this would be a stepping stone: a few years, some good experience, and then on to the next opportunity.
But something unexpected happened. Every single year I've been here, the job has gotten better. Leadership listened. Trust grew. Autonomy increased. The practice evolved. And the people, both inside the hospital and throughout the community, slowly made this place feel like home.
Nebraska nice isn't a slogan here. It's the real deal. People are genuine, kind and welcoming. They show up for each other. That culture absolutely exists within Great Plains Health, but it also extends far beyond it: into schools, neighborhoods and everyday life.
At Great Plains Health, we have built something special together. We are an independent, financially stable and growing organization. Decisions are made locally. Surgeons, CRNAs, nurses and staff work as true teammates. We've been intentional about building a practice that values people, sustainability and long-term satisfaction.
I've watched many colleagues chase the next "greener pasture." What I've learned is that greener pastures are often already under your feet, if you're willing to help cultivate them. Every year I stayed, this job became more rewarding.
North Platte became home. This job became a career. And today, I can honestly say: this is a sweet gig, and I love working and living here.
