Epiphany Health's physicians are leaders in a revolution of healthcare changes, bringing basics back to physician and patient relationships. The practice is among the last physician owned and operated primary care practices in the region and we pride ourselves on individualized patient care. Where other practices may take the fast food approach, we consider ourselves fine-dining. We have dedicated ourselves to serving the needs of our community since the practice opened in 2002. Epiphany Health has developed an innovative subscription based health and wellness program that delivers high quality, affordable direct primary healthcare. Epiphany Health realized that third party payers have made primary care physicians an endangered species. Interference from insurance companies has driven a wedge between the physician and the patient. Increasing administrative burdens, doctors have been forced to spend less time with patients and more time on paperwork. This trend is bad for both patients and doctors, and is worsening rapidly. This is not what Epiphany Health wanted for our patients or us. As primary care physicians, we were dedicated to finding a solution to deliver affordable healthcare, thus the new membership-based affordable direct primary care was created, thus the inspiration behind the name: Epiphany Health. We have created an affordable healthcare option for the uninsured or underinsured that includes most primary care services, as well as access to discounted labs, imaging, medications, physical therapy and specialty services. In an effort to restore the physician-patient relationship, we considered and evaluated several new care models. Since primary care is the least expensive component in health care, eliminating the middleman-- in this case the insurance industry-- we can provide affordable care by contracting directly with the patient and reducing the administrative costs that drive up the overall cost of care. Our simple model has several advantages: true price transparency, high quality care, affordable fees, no co-pays, no deductibles, no pre-existing condition exclusions and a plan not tied to an employer. Although, there were still cost barriers with expensive imaging, laboratory and medications, we found that local healthcare providers were eager to provide discounted services outside of the third party payer system.

Epiphany Health is once again spotlighted as part of a solution for America’s ailing healthcare system in the national media, along with many great colleagues, in today’s article by the Associated Press.

Direct primary care is an increasingly popular health care option. Patients at these clinics pay a fee of roughly $50 to $100 month and get easier, direct access to their doctor for routine care as often as they want for no extra cost.

To our patients and impacted by Hurricane Milton:

We’re grateful that power has been restored and we aim to reopen our North Port office on Monday. Our DeSoto location will open at 1 PM on Monday. Our phone lines remain available 24/7, though cellular service for our on-call team is still spotty. If you have a scheduled Monday appointment, we expect to be ready. Please hold non-urgent needs for later in the week so we can prioritize urgent care with our limited staff. Be cautious when visiting, as debris and non-functioning traffic lights persist. Gasoline is also scarce, so fill up before traveling from afar.

To those on the affected barrier islands, especially those who have lost homes or are cut off, our hearts are with you. We also extend our prayers to our patients working at The Gasparilla Inn & Club. We know your services are limited, but we are here for you. Please contact us for medical advice, and remember we offer telemedicine if you have internet or cell service. You can also email non-urgent needs to info@epiphanyhealth.org when connected.

Good afternoon to our friends, patients and family. Due to Hurricane Milton the office will be closed tommorow Tuesday October 8th until further notice. We will notify you all as soon as we will re-open when it is safe to do so.Please all stay safe. As a reminder Dr. Hicks does not recommend patients to wear Contact Lenses without proper hand washing, and he highly recommends safety glasses for Hurricane Clean Up!
If you have an ocular emergency or need medications refilled, please text our office at 941-876-4400, we will monitor the texts and calls as best as we can, as cell service becomes available.
