To all my AMAZING past clients, my local birth community and my wonderful supporters- I have recently made the very tough decision to stop doing doula work. This year has been challenging both personally and professionally beyond what any of us could have imagined. With all the uncertainty still to come it feels like the best choice right now. I want to thank each and every family who has welcomed me into their homes and allowed me to be a part of such an intimate part of their lives. I carry each of your stories in my heart! This journey supporting parents and babies for the past 7 years has been a gift.

On the plus side though- Gentle Waves Birthing is not "closing its doors!" I will be changing my focus to all virtual childbirth education classes and am working on updating my website to better reflect my current offerings. I'll post again when it's done. Onward!

An incredible local group supporting LGBTQ+ folks throughout their reproductive and family-growing time! Comprehensive birth education that isn’t cis & hetero focused. This group will serve as a space to create community and share resources among q***r and trans pregnant folks and families as well as q***r and trans birth workers.

They are launching monthly pregnancy and postpartum support groups for q***r and trans folks. Pregnancy group starts next Saturday! (The postpartum group will start in late October). Sign up below:

For those of you who know me you know that I have always stood firmly and strongly in the beliefs of equality for all people. Ever since I was a child I was loud and vocal about racial equality and the rights of the LGBTQ community.

When I started doing doula work 7 years ago I thought it was enough to hold these strong convictions in my heart. I thought when people met me it would be clear to them who I am and what I stand for. I allowed my voice to go silent. This was a mistake.

I am always learning about social justice. I am always listening when people speak on racial issues. Listening and learning are good but they are not enough.

I want to apologize to anyone and everyone who ever went on my site, saw pictures of all white folks and straight couples and didn’t reach out because they doubted I was an ally. This was the biggest mistake.

I want to apologize to anyone who ever felt marginalized by me and for my silence. This is not who I am.

I will continue to listen and learn. I will continue to teach my kids and raise them to know that their voices are the most powerful weapon against discrimination.

I have made donations to Black Mamas Matter Alliance and Black Lives Matter. I will work harder to create content on both my website and my social media that is inclusive and reflective of my beliefs. This will take time and your patience is appreciated. I will continue to donate, listen, learn, and speak.

A post I made three years ago came up on my Facebook memories today and it seems more profound today than it was back then. “In Germany they first came for the communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a communist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me- and by that time no one was left to speak up.” -Rev. Martin Niemoller.
