Caruso and colleagues (2019) performed a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials with the aim of evaluating the efficacy of antidepressants on depressive symptoms, anxiety and quality of life in patients with neuropathic pain caused by different diseases and conditions. This was the first meta-analysis that specifically focused on the effect of antidepressants on psychiatric symptoms and quality of life in patients with neuropathic pain.

This study showed that antidepressants, in general, were more effective than placebo in improving depressive symptoms in these patients, although the magnitude of the effect was small.

But unfortunately it affects between 20% and 40% of the world population, which on average gives something like 2.1 billion people. 🌎🤕
