I’m finally getting around to re-introducing myself. We have been pretty quiet over the last year or two but it’s time to get back out here and interact with the world. I’m Mellanie. I’ve been a lactation consultant (IBCLC) for 20+ years. The time has flown by! In those 20 years, my young children have grown up, my marriage has grown ever stronger, and I have grown so much in my professional life. As my children and my practice grew, I discovered a love for herbal medicine, for homeopathy, for root-cause medicine. I love working with moms and babies from the basics of prenatal planning or learning about positioning and milk production to the more complicated issues of oral dysfunction, oral ties, structural issues, bottle refusal and low milk production. It is such a privilege to navigate the world of infant feeding with new families.

It's been a minute, so we would like to reintroduce ourselves! Social media is not our strong suit, but helping mamas and babies build strong nursing relationships is, so forgive us for our lack of posts in recent weeks. We are still here!

I'm Deirdre Cannon, IBCLC. I have been a lactation consultant for 15+ years. I love working with moms to find their footing in motherhood through the trials of learning to feed their little ones. I view this profession as an immense responsibility, as well as a passion. I would love to help you and your little one.

A little about me... I'm a wife of 26 years to my amazing hubby, who stands by me through it all. I'm a mom to 3 crazy, fabulous children. And while I'm past my nursing years, they were all breastfed and are the reason I have such a passion for this profession. I am a homeschooling mama and a science teacher at our co-op. It's always fun to bust out my mammary knowledge when teaching my high school biology students about mammals. 😉 I'm the oldest of my 5 siblings and the only girl, which makes me used to chaos.

In addition to our full-length in-depth consultations, we also offer shorter mini sessions. These visits are great for a quick follow up, making a pumping plan, weaning plans, or for a quick q&a.

Excellent commentary on the AAP position regarding tongue ties and breastfeeding…. IBCLCs need to be an integral part of the team that supports breastfeeding moms and babies. We are the only ones that actually assess the whole picture of both mom and baby. We are the only ones routinely assessing the oral function in relation to breastfeeding. And while we absolutely agree with the AAP that every tie should not be immediately released, we do not agree that no ties should be released. Every baby should be assessed as an individual with individual needs.
