Why Are 2026 Health Insurance Rates Skyrocketing?
If you’ve seen your 2026 ACA renewal notice, you’ve likely noticed a massive jump in cost. Nationally, benchmark premiums are up an average of 26%, but for many families, the out-of-pocket cost is spiking by over 100%.

What’s driving the surge?
It’s a "perfect storm" of factors hitting the healthcare market all at once:

The Expiration of Enhanced Tax Credits: This is the biggest hit. Federal subsidies that lowered monthly bills for the last few years have lapsed. For middle-class families earning over 400% of the poverty level, financial help may have vanished entirely.

High-Cost Medications: Surge in demand for expensive GLP-1 drugs (like Ozempic) has forced insurers to hike rates across the board.

The "Risk Pool" Shift: As prices rise, healthy individuals often drop out of the exchange, leaving a sicker, more expensive patient base for the insurance companies to cover.
