It’s that time of year again! The 2025 LDS CAPA (Formerly AMCAP) Fall Conference is in the works. If you are interested in presenting a workshop, roundtable, or poster at the conference, submit your proposal by the May 1 deadline.

Clinicians, faculty, students, and other professionals are all encouraged to participate. This year is the organization’s 50th anniversary. We are looking forward to an engaging conference with our excellent presenters. The theme is, “50 Years Together: Honoring the Past, Looking to the Future,” but proposals are invited on any topic.

Presenters selected are also invited to publish in a peer-reviewed journal by converting their presentations into articles with the help of our journal editing team.

Meet Ashly Leavitt, ACMHC, CCPS-C, and our first ever LDS CAPA Featured Member! Each month we’ll be highlighting different members to help you get to know our members better. Featured Members will be highlighted on our new website (coming soon) with more information and resources they recommend. Be sure to check them out!

Ashly cofounded Rejoice Recovery, a faith-based organization dedicated to helping individuals overcome issues such as addiction, trauma, and grief. Through community and faith, they offer a transformative journey of healing and restoration. Our final keynote speaker is Dr. Gary Jorgensen! Read about Dr. Jorgensen below and find more information at ldsamcap.org. He will be presenting on Friday, October 4.

Gary Q. Jorgensen holds a B.S. degree in History, an M.S. degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, all from the University of Utah. He has served as the Director of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Clinic at The Haven in Salt Lake City, Utah. Currently, he serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Utah.

Gary has also served in various religious capacities, including as a bishop, a member of the stake presidency, and on the Sunday School general board. His life is profoundly shaped by his family. He was married to Janet Maddock Jorgensen, who has since passed away. Together, they raised seven children, six of whom lived to adulthood. They have been blessed with 20 grandchildren and over 30 great-grandchildren.

Derek Willis Hagey, Ph.D., LMFT, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Utah. He received his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and his Ph.D. from Kansas State University, both in Marriage and Family Therapy. Derek is currently employed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Family Services, where he provides oversight and subject matter expertise on various mental health and relationship issues.

Our next keynote speaker is Brent Taylor, PhD. Learn more about Dr. Taylor below or visit our website at ldsamcap.org for his complete bio!

Brent A. Taylor, Ph.D., began his professorship at San Diego State University (SDSU) in 2000, the same year he became licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in California. He served as the program director for the Marriage and Family Therapy program for nine years and then as the department chair of Counseling and School Psychology for seven years at SDSU.

His publications appear in numerous academic journals and books, and he has presented widely across the country. Additionally, he maintains a clinical private practice. He is the father of three children and has one grandchild.

Michelle Craig finds immense joy in her roles as a wife, mother of three, and grandmother to thirteen. Recently, she completed her service as the First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Throughout her tenure, she was fortunate to meet many individuals worldwide who follow the example of Jesus Christ and "go about doing good." She holds great hope for the rising generation and their potential to make a meaningful impact on the world.
