Last week, we were truly honored to host the Davis County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) right here on our campus! The CJCC plays a vital role in our local system, bringing together a powerhouse of leadership including the county commissioner, sheriff, municipal police chief, county attorney, public defenders, and judges. It also includes dedicated representatives from human services, higher education, and peer support services—all working toward the shared goal of reducing recidivism and strengthening our community.

The CJCC has been an incredible pillar of support for John Volken Academy during our transition over the past year. It was a privilege to finally bring these key individuals under our roof to show them firsthand what our program is all about. We are proud to be part of this council and are deeply grateful for their unwavering support of our mission. Thank you, CJCC, for your partnership and for the essential resources you provide to help those in recovery succeed!

Big things are happening in our atriums! We are excited to share an update on the design project our students have been spearheading. Our skilled construction team has been hard at work lately, moving past the design phase and into the heavy lifting of laying the groundwork for some incredible new water features.

There is something truly special about watching a project move from the initial sketches and conception to physical completion. These atriums are more than just a renovation; they represent the hard work, planning, and teamwork our guys put into everything they do here at John Volken Academy. We can’t wait to see the finished product and the sense of accomplishment it will bring to those who built it. Stay tuned for the final reveal!

We are thrilled to announce that high school is officially back! During our time as Red Barn, we cherished our incredible partnership with Davis Adult Education and our dedicated teacher, Ms. Leslie. While our students have spent the last few months working hard toward their GEDs here at John Volken Academy, we are beyond excited to reignite this partnership to offer something even more impactful.

Through this collaboration, we are now providing on-site classes, specialized tutoring, and a clear pathway for each student to earn the specific credits they need to graduate with their full high school diploma! At JVA, we place a high value on education because we know that earning a diploma is more than just a piece of paper—it is a vital step toward rebuilding a broken life and opening doors to a brighter future.

A massive thank you to Ms. Leslie and the entire team at Davis Adult Education for believing in our men and making these life-changing opportunities possible once again!

This week, our students had the incredible privilege of attending Odyssey Dance Theatre’s stunning production of Chicago Nights as part of their "Shut Up and Dance" series. It was a rare and wonderful opportunity for the guys to trade in their everyday attire, dress up, and immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of live theatre. We want to extend a huge thank you to Sharetix for their generous donation of tickets, which made this cultural experience possible for our community.

The performance was more than just entertainment; it sparked some meaningful reflection. While the themes of Chicago—like alcohol, crime, and the pressures of the legal system—certainly hit close to home for many of our guys, the experience wasn't about dwelling on the past. Instead, those familiar elements made the story relatable, offering a unique lens through which they could connect with the art and with one another. It was a powerful night of culture and connection that reminded us all of the beauty in shared experiences and the joy of a night out at the theatre.

As the Utah heat starts to kick in, staying hydrated and energized is more important than ever—especially for our students hitting the gym as part of their wellness journey. Physical health is a huge pillar of what we do here at the Academy, and support from local companies like Redmond makes a world of difference.

Last week, we visited the Ogden Rescue Mission to provide blankets, hygiene kits, and clothing. Seeing the appreciation from the residents reminded us why community support is so vital. We had an absolute blast taking our students and alumni to the Delta Center this week to cheer on our Utah Mammoths as they took on the Washington Capitals. These outings are so much more than just a game—they’re an opportunity for our men to bond, build community, and experience the excitement of our city’s growing sports culture.
