A group of guys, a lake, and no substances...just good energy, laughter, and the kind of memories you actually want to remember.

Trips like this one to Causey Reservoir are more than just fun. They’re a reminder that life in recovery can be full of adventure, connection, and moments that matter. Utah’s pretty amazing, and so is doing it all sober.

Even as we get closer to moving into our new campus, we’re still putting care into the place that’s gotten us this far.

Gardening teaches patience, responsibility, and the power of consistency, and there’s something deeply healing about getting your hands in the dirt and watching something grow. Proud of our students for keeping things thriving here at JVA.

Our 4th of July celebration hit a whole new level thanks to some incredibly talented students who put on a concert to remember for years to come!

From Jaiden’s electric Hendrix-style rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner to acoustic sets, combined numbers, and moving piano solos, the creativity, heart, and talent on display was unreal.

These guys poured themselves into the music and put on an unforgettable show for their brothers. We’re proud of the hard work they put in!

After 27 months of hard work, growth, and commitment, Mark has officially completed his time at John Volken Academy. He truly exemplifies the core values we teach: honest, integrity, accountability, and service. We couldn't be more proud!

Mark is now stepping into the next chapter of his life, making a difference not only for himself but also for his family and his community. His transformation is a powerful reminder of what's possible when you put in the work and never give up.

This 4th of July, we were honored to participate in the West Bountiful Parade. We walked together not just to celebrate Independence Day, but to represent the freedom and second chances that come through hard work, accountability, and community support.

Thank you to everyone who cheered us on. We’re proud to be part of a community that believes in transformation and hope!

Mistakes are only mistakes if we don’t grow from them. At JVA, we choose growth. We choose integrity. We choose to do the next right thing every day! That’s the kind of freedom we fight for.

We had the chance to host a local STEM high school student for a 60-hour internship here at John Volken Academy. Over the course of a few weeks, she learned valuable real-world skills in admin and legal work, corporate development, community relations, customer service, and even helped manage our thrift store.

Our students had the opportunity to share what they’ve learned along their own journeys; passing on experience, insight, and leadership to someone just beginning theirs.

It’s a full-circle moment: giving back while continuing to grow.

We want to give a huge thank you to our friends at Tailor Cooperative for helping our men look their best.

After putting in the hard work for two years becoming honest, accountable, and living with integrity, our guys are ready for what's next.

Thanks to Tailor Cooperative’s generous donation of custom, fitted suits, our men can now show up looking sharp and feeling confident. Whether it’s a job interview or standing in front of a judge to terminate their probation, they walk in fully reflecting the transformation they’ve worked so hard for.

Because when the inside changes, the outside should too.

Alessandra and her team have supported so many of our men over the years, and we’re incredibly grateful for the ongoing relationship. Thank you!

Huge thanks to .shop for donating three high-quality weighted vests to our Academy!

Fitness is a key pillar in recovery. After years of destructive habits, our students are learning what it means to care for their bodies again; rebuilding strength, stamina, and confidence one workout at a time.

These vests aren’t just equipment. They’re a tool for growth, challenge, and commitment to becoming stronger physically and mentally. We’re grateful for partners like APEXUP who believe in second chances and support the hard work it takes to change.

UPDATE: Big things happening at our new North Salt Lake campus!

Our students have been hard at work remodeling the space. They've been working from the ground up. They’ve been grinding down the old flooring, removing glue and debris, and prepping the surface to make it look incredible.

Along the way, they’re learning valuable construction skills, exploring different trades, and building life-skills, all while leaving their handprint on a place that will soon change not just their life, but the lives of countless other men.
