Alabama is now eligible for up to $16.5 million over the next decade to expand midwifery access through the federal Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model. This initiative requires the state to train more providers and rethink how Medicaid supports community-based care—a clear step toward systemic change, if funding is sustained and states follow through.
