My functional medicine doctor told me after several hormone tests and a three hour life history examination that if I wanted mental clarity, energy, and to tone up I required killing off some nasty gut bacteria like SEBO and candida.
There is lots of cool science here, so I'll share. The reason I was still slightly pudgy, needed caffeine most days, had sugar and caffeine addictions, and had stress even after doing macro counting, even with nearly 2 hours in the gym daily is because my hormones were out of balance.
My body was under producing testosterone and serotonin. These hormones directly affect mood, memory, and the fat I could not lose around my waist, jaws, and arms.
He told me the most important thing was not to feed the Sebo or candida. Starve them. The way to do this FUEL the bacteria so stinking much that the good bacteria grow. Those good gut buddies are what produce serotonin and testosterone hormones.
