Whatever the calendar says, it feels like it’s officially summer around here when the boats hit the water. What a glorious day for our first kayaking program of the season at Hopkinton State Park with DCR Universal Access Program.

2 wooden shims, 2 scraps of ensolite, and a whole lot of gorilla tape = yesterday's recipe for independent shifting! A trike customer who can no longer pull up on their bar end shifter to change gears just needed a little extra leverage to be able to continue riding independently. We fashioned this, and now with a combination of pulling up with their hand and pushing down with their forearm, our customer is off and riding again.

(Yes, yes, there's for sure a more permanent and elegant solution to be found, but why wait for perfect when you can be back out riding today?)

Yesterday we had an awesome adventure riding in the Northampton Cycling Club 's Massochistah Gravel Ride! We rode 18 miles with 1,900 feet of elevation gain through Goshen and Ashfield, and in true Massochistah style it was 40° and raining. Temperatures were low, but spirits were high.

At AOA, we're all about adventuring on the trails. So today was a beautiful day to pause with the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce's netWORK event, hosted by Kestrel Land Trust at beautiful Whately Center Woods. We schlepped boards down the trail and extended this bog bridge by 20'. Executive Director Karen Foster Cannon promises never to pass one of these again without pausing to recognize the work that went into it!

Super fun to carry, dig, and level boards with Cheyenne from Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and speaking coach/story telling expert Johanna Walker (johannawalker.com).
