We want to take a moment to welcome Matthew Gear to the Empower Health Group recovery coach team!!
Matthew is the guy right in the middle of this photo and our new Recovery Coach Supervisor. He brings lived experience, steady leadership, and a strong service-driven approach to the work we do. If you see him around, be sure to say hello! We are excited to have him lead, mold, and develop our recovery coaching curriculum while supporting the growth of our recovery coaches.
Matthew is a person in long-term recovery who has been actively rebuilding his life since
November 4, 2017, following 15 years of active addiction. He is a devoted father, husband,
son, brother, and uncle, and he grounds both his personal and professional life in service,
integrity, and compassion.
He is the Co-Founder of G.A.A.P. Recovery, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to removing
financial barriers to recovery by providing free recovery coaching, supportive housing
scholarships, and individualized support for people seeking lasting change. Matthew is
also the Owner and Operator of Project Healing House LLC, which offers individual
supportive housing within a structured, recovery-focused environment.
Matthew approaches recovery holistically, believing that healing involves the mind, body,
spirit, and community. Known for his empathy and authenticity, he considers himself a
deeply loving and compassionate recovery coach and recovery coach supervisor,
committed to empowering others to define and pursue recovery on their own terms. He
firmly believes that recovery is for everyone—it may look different from person to person,
but it is always possible. 🦁🤝
