Please join us in celebrating Charlotte Cahillane, RN, BSN, who was recognized with the January 2026 DAISY Award for extraordinary nursing at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Charlotte joined CDH last year after earning her BSN from UMass — and she has already made an incredible impact on patients and families. Her nominator shared heartfelt words about the care Charlotte provided to a patient with a rare and aggressive cancer:
“Ms. Cahillane showed consistent and high-quality respect for my sister… She treated her calmly, with respect, and dignity... I have seldom seen a nurse as caring, responsive, and dedicated.” Charlotte, thank you for the compassion, professionalism, and humanity you bring to your work every day. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

Congratulations to Olivia Lynn, RN, BSN — our December 2025 DAISY Award honoree!
Olivia, a dedicated member of the West 2 team at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, is recognized for the extraordinary compassion and holistic care she provides to patients and their families. Her nominator shared a powerful story of how Olivia supported a family through a loved one’s final moments — with empathy, presence, and dignity that made a lasting impact.
Olivia also received the West 2 Unit Superstar Award in December, reflecting the deep appreciation her colleagues and patients have for her. After joining Cooley Dickinson as a traveler in 2024, she became a permanent member of the team last fall — and we’re so grateful she did.
Thank you, Olivia, for embodying the heart of nursing and delivering exceptional care when it matters most.

Last month, Bikes Fight Cancer, founded by Johnny and Meghan Morin, presented a $70,000 donation to the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute at Cooley Dickinson Hospital to support its Cancer Patient Care Fund, which assists local patients facing financial hardship during cancer treatment. The gift also establishes a new $25,000 Bikes Fight Cancer Patient Care Fund Endowment, creating lasting support for patients in need.

The donation is part of more than $170,000 distributed locally from the 2025 Bikes Fight Cancer Charity Ride. This year’s gift carries special meaning as Team Cooley—a group of doctors, nurses and social workers from Cooley Dickinson—participated in the ride, raising more than $16,000 toward the total.

“Every dollar raised helps a cancer patient here at Cooley Dickinson, enabling them to focus on healing and recovery," says Diane Dukette, chief development officer. "We are so grateful to those who participated in the charity ride, volunteered their time, and donated to support cancer patients in our community.”

Congratulations to Emelia Brennan, RN, from the Telemetry Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, who received the November for extraordinary compassion and care.

Patients praised Emelia for going above and beyond, offering comfort and kindness. "Emelia was thoughtful and caring, even printing copies of my mother’s sodium retention and care needs for her, so she could read and understand her treatment. As a lifelong learner and former college administrator, my mother really appreciates data, understanding the 'why' and learning how she can impact her own successful outcome. A big thank you to Emelia and the whole team."

Emelia was inspired to pursue a career in nursing by her mother, who has been a nurse for 35+ years. Thank you, Emelia, for making a difference every day!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Trees of Love & Thanksgiving lighting ceremony earlier this week. Now in its 27th year, the Trees of Love & Thanksgiving raises funds to support critical initiatives, such as defibrillators and specialty mattresses, to promote healing for patients experiencing wounds. Each year, a portion of the funds is dedicated to purchasing infant car beds, ensuring underweight newborns have a safe ride home from the hospital.

Cooley Dickinson Hospital is honored to announce The Paul and Susan Mannheim Endowment for Facilities Improvement, made possible by a generous $560,000 gift from Susan Mannheim and her late husband, Paul.

Paul’s decades of community service, from volunteering to supporting major capital projects, left a lasting legacy. Inspired by his work on the Facilities Committee, the endowment was funded through a life insurance policy he thoughtfully planned years ago.

“It started small, and with time and planning, it grew. That’s something anyone can do,” Sue shares.
