Every mealtime is creating a memory. Are we creating memories that make children want to come back to the table, or ones that make them want to avoid it? The goal is enjoyment, not compliance.

Responsive Feeding Therapy (RFT) can be a true game-changer in feeding treatment. When children feel understood and supported at the table, they are more willing to participate, build new skills, and find joy in eating—leading to lasting progress.

This course, Responsive Feeding: Review of the Evidence and Application to Therapy, provides a review of the evidence base supporting RFT. Drawing from research in occupational therapy, speech language pathology, pediatric nutrition, psychology, attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and interpersonal neurobiology, presenters will explore how findings from multiple disciplines converge to inform responsive approaches in feeding therapy. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the scientific foundations of RFT and how this body of evidence shapes current best practices in the field.

Here's why smoothies work when other approaches don't: they offer PREDICTABILITY in an unpredictable food world. While a fresh apple might be sweet, tart, crisp, or mealy (hello, sensory surprise!), a well-made smoothie provides consistent texture and controlled flavor changes. For children with PFD and ARFID who need sameness to feel safe, this predictability becomes the foundation for gradual diet expansion. Start where they're comfortable, stretch slowly, celebrate participation over consumption.

When a child says no to food, there's always a reason: not hungry, doesn't feel well, bad past experience, constipation, sensory issues, or the food looks wrong can all be reasons! Get curious instead of trying to convince them. Their no is right!

Kids can meet new foods by: watching others eat, helping cook, setting the table, grocery shopping, playing food games, or just having food nearby at meals. No pressure to taste—just opportunities to get comfortable with novelty.
