Plant a Neighborhood Pantry

Plant a Neighborhood Pantry New custom built neighborhood / community pantries for sale. Aka little free pantry or blessing box. I'm just not there yet.

In 2016 when I first saw something about a little free pantry I became really interested in getting my own. During my online searches to buy a community pantry I found that there really weren't many sources to buy a pantry from and there wasn't much available for sale either. Not satisfied with the very small pantries I did find out there, I built and installed my first pantry in June 2018 for in

front of my home, which is still in use to this day. I absolutely love the neighborhood / community pantry (aka little free pantry) cause / movement and woodworking so I started building more pantries to sell in the hope that more people would want to plant their own community pantry and become stewards of them and to also fund more pantry builds. My hope and plan is to make a business of making nothing but neighborhood / community pantries and start making more customized pantries to people's specifics (paint color, shingle color, etc.) There have been many people who have made a long term effort in keeping my neighborhood pantry well stocked and I believe the same would be true elsewhere. If you have any questions about the pantries I build or about what it's like being a steward of a pantry please feel free to ask.

Yesterday I visited the very first pantry I ever built, now planted at its new home at Riverside Northfield LLC (formerly Florella’s Mobile Home Park) in Northfield, MN just off Hwy 3. It sits right on the other side of the trees from Northfield Estates apartments, making it accessible to even more neighbors.

This pantry coming full circle means a lot to me more than I can put into words. I grew up in a single‑wide mobile home surviving poverty so I know firsthand the stigma that communities in need often face. But I also know the strength and resilience that exist in these neighborhoods. Seeing this pantry cared for and made available to their neighborhood reminds me why I started building them: to offer dignity, connection, and a little extra support where it matters most.

If you’re able, please share this post so neighbors know where to find it. Let’s keep spreading the love. 🌱💛

The past 7 months has been the most difficult time in my life. About 1 month ago I moved out of the family home into an apartment due to a divorce. Therefore, I no longer have the space, time or funds to continue building as I had once dreamed of.

Shown below is my very first pantry build that I had refurbished, the #1 out of many. I've been looking to rehome it for quite sometime. During my move the door face was slightly damaged which left me wondering what to do. With one small leap of faith I found someone by chance and reached out not knowing what to expect. It's going to a local community in need and the new owner was more than willing to mend the damage on his own. Thanks be to God! 🙏 When it is installed and available for use I will update all of you of its new home.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who has supported my efforts and if I can ever get back into building neighborhood pantries, all of you will be the first to know.

My first pantry build has been transformed after about a weeks worth of some TLC.

New roof and architectural shingles
New door and gravity latch
New paint inside and out 2-3 coats each
💙 Sailing Suzy blue 💙
New stand alone base - all green treated
New multisectioned interior

Considering doing a vinyl graphic for the door but also would like to give a new owner that option to choose after purchasing it.

Does anyone recognize this baby? When we moved from Lakeville to Northfield in 2022, the new owner took over stewarding my very first pantry build. She has decided to not keep it any longer and she thankfully reached out to me to ask if I wanted it. YES! It was lopped off at the post and dropped like a tree before I could get there. Surprising the only thing that was damaged was the roof, structurally it's still good. The plan is to give it a new life and rehome it after a complete transformation (including a new roof). It's so cool to look back a little over 6yrs ago and see how my work has progressed. Even though I was a novice to woodworking this one has held up very well since being planted in June 2018. All the other pantries came 2yrs+ after this one and even more improvements were implemented with those. I can't believe it is now back with me.🥰 Stay tuned in for updates! 👍😁

My 12th neighborhood pantry just left today to be planted🌱 in Maple Grove, MN. This one is the first I've ever heard of to be going into a townhome association or HOA where they have 257 townhomes.👏💛 Great example to be setting! Many HOAs will not allow such a thing anywhere on their property. They have wanted to increase the size of their existing litte free library for awhile to include a wider selection and add a blessing section too! I believe this is the tallest of all my pantry builds so this one increases their giving area by about five times. 💃🤸‍♀️🎉🙌❤️Hallelujah! and Amen🙏

She also mentioned once it becomes available she will post to their FB page about it and share the link with me and I will of course share with all of you.

My 11th neighborhood pantry left earlier today to be planted🌱 in Mora, MN. A generous sponsor, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased this pantry as a donation to a small town, faith based non-profit organization called, "A Family and Life Resource - Mora Crisis Pregnancy Center". For probably a year, the sponsor and I have been searching for a non-profit that would accept a donation such as this pantry... it is more difficult than one would imagine. It was ultimately the sponsor's efforts that made this all happen.🙌 So thankful!

This pantry will be used as a kid's blessing box, meaning children will be able to choose from all kinds of things a youngster would enjoy, to take home after each visit. Who else remembers going to the local dentist's office and getting to pick from their treasure trove something that brings you joy?

Mora, MN is a small town with a population of roughly 3.7k people. This is the second smallest location of my pantry plantings and I'm so ecstatic about all that. I grew up in a small Iowa town with a population of 1.2k and we didn't have many resources. This fills my heart with so much joy and it's a full circle moment, personally. 🥰❤️

🙌 Oh Hallelujah and Amen 🙏

My 10th neighborhood pantry left earlier today to be planted🌱 in Apple Valley, MN. This awesome gentleman purchased this pantry as a 🎉surprise🎉 donation to Spirit of Life Presbyterian Church located just off Pilot K**b Rd and will also sit just across the road from Rosemount, MN city limits. In order to not spoil the surprise I waited until he gave me the OK to post about it... so ecstatic to share this with all of you.

He mentioned that his church has had a very active, smaller pantry for a couple years but it has been deteriorating and they've been in need of a replacement. He decided to go with one that is twice as big as their current one and they plan on using it as a food pantry. This is my second build that has gone to a church, this is love your neighbor in action. This pantry will have a home smack dab in the middle of a large residential area where there’s a mixture of individual houses, duplexes, townhomes or condos and it’s only half a mile from a middle school, that is a great placement in the community.

Also this man has set a great example!!! If you can’t have a pantry where you live, for example, you live out of town, in a HOA or in an apartment or you would just rather not be involved with the maintenance and responsibilities of stewarding a pantry but love the cause, consider sponsoring a pantry.

There is sooo much to say Hallelujah about. ❤️🙌💃🤸‍♀️🎉 Love it!!!

My 9th neighborhood pantry left today to be planted🌱 in St. Michael, MN. This one is actually going to become a Little Free Library. In case I haven't mentioned it, even though I advertise them as food pantries, new owners get to choose what their's will be used for. Being an avid book reader myself, I can certainly appreciate he decided to go with a bigger library📚👍 than the typical smaller ones.

A statement from the new owner:
"We have been loading other free libraries in other places and decided to have one at our house to share with the rest of the neighborhood. We have 5 kids and tons of books that have been read and are ready to be shared." 💛📚🙏 Hallelujah 🙌

I have finally made the roadtrip (9hr drive) down to Springdale, AR to see #8 blue 💙 pantry officially planted.🌱 This is the furthest pantry from its MN origins and I would just love it if my other 4 builds back home could be scattered all over the US like this one. It's on a campus owned by Arisa Health, a non-profit organization that works with foster children and low income families, and they decided to put it right next to a bus stop shelter... that is such a GREAT idea in every way possible!!!❤️ They know their community well. Hallelujah! 🙌

A memory from my personal account before I created "Plant a Neighborhood Pantry". I had also been keeping track of the registered pantries throughout the Twin Cities... that has grown substantially over the years. ❤️ Hallelujah 🙌

This pantry is planted in Apple Valley, MN.
