Nat Wilson was home with the kids when he started feeling sick. His wife Martha was traveling.

Nat thought it was stomach flu. But in the night, Nat’s vomiting intensified and his gut pain zeroed in on one spot: his appendix.

Within hours, Nat was in surgery.

Between his primary care provider, surgeon Ellie Cohen, MD -- and family friends -- Nat and the kids were in good hands.

“It was huge to be able to get care close to home where our support circle is,” Nat says. “Having a really good hospital right here makes a huge difference.”

Everyone gets dizzy now and then. How can you tell if it’s vertigo, and if it’s serious?

Dizziness is a sense of disorientation, feeling lightheaded or off-balance.

Vertigo is the feeling that you or the room around you is spinning.

** If you ever have vertigo so bad that you can’t even stand up, go to the Emergency Department to rule out severe causes like a stroke. **

Our ENT specialist Malorie VanWinkle, PA-C explains 4 main causes of dizziness and vertigo . . . and how to treat them.

Health care that feels like home

It was an unusual way to celebrate a birthday. But then, 100 isn’t your typical birthday.

Margit Fredrickson was turning 100. Her son Karl thought she’d like to meet a baby who shares her birthday . . . 100 years apart. He called the Birth Center at Northfield Hospital that day to ask if any new babies had arrived. That’s how Margit met Waylon, just hours after he was born.

We’re proud that Northfield Hospital is a place where community connects . . . for over 115 years.

Our hospital and clinics provide state-of-the-art care in a tranquil environment that’s easy to reach, easy to navigate, and always welcoming. Our providers and staff are here for you in your happiest . . . and hardest . . . moments.
