Craig Smith depends on one key piece of equipment to stay well: an airplane.

For 11 years, Craig has flown each month to NH+C’s Cancer Care & Infusion Center from his winter home in Arizona – he does this to receive infusions for his autoimmune disease – and for the rest of the year, he drives down from his home in the Twin Cities for the treatments.

Craig first came to NH+C after being diagnosed with polymyositis — a rare autoimmune condition that attacked his muscles — while on vacation. After hospitalization and treatment challenges elsewhere, he chose NH+C because of our private treatment rooms, coordinated care and hospital-based setting.

The infusion therapy was a lifesaver, helping stabilize his condition and allowing him to return to work.

Craig blocks his calendar and buys plane tickets each month so he can keep up with the regular six-hour infusions, which he says are delivered with a team that knows him, listens to him, and responds quickly in emergencies.

“I believe in this team. I wouldn’t trade it,” Craig says.

• Outcomes
• Best Practices
• Value
• Patient Experience

We’re especially proud that Northfield Hospital earned a 5-Star rating for Patient Experience 💚 — including a top score when patients were asked if they recommend our hospital.

We’re so proud to hear what patients think of NH+C family medicine physician Dr. David McIntyre! 💜 He’s really making a difference:

“Dr. McIntyre has been our family doctor for 23 years. We have been 100% impressed with him. Our kids were able to continue care with him as adults. It’s reassuring to have a great doctor that really gets to know your family and all their needs.”

“I came in with concerns about high blood pressure and wasn’t pressured into any testing or anything I didn’t want or need. Thank you, Dr. McIntyre, for being kind, knowledgeable, comforting, and not pushy. I felt heard and comfortable.”

“I always feel well cared for. I appreciate Dr. McIntyre’s thoughtful descriptions and explanations. I value greatly his human and humane approach.”

James Schlichting thought he was experiencing normal aches and pains.

As a patient at NH+C’s Lakeville Clinic, James sees Dr. Jack Felland for primary care. During a wellness visit, he mentioned ongoing pain in his left elbow and right shoulder — and that conversation set many steps in motion to address the issue.

Dr. Felland referred James to orthopedic surgeon Greg Erickson, MD, and got him an MRI to get a clearer picture of what was going on.

The results showed James needed surgery… three of them.

After successful procedures and follow-up physical therapy, James is back to doing what he loves — playing trumpet and pickleball.

“I like that I can get my primary care, surgical appointments, and physical therapy all just 10 minutes from home, in Lakeville,” James says. “I like that surgery takes place in Northfield. For people in south metro suburbs, this is a great option for excellent care that’s close and convenient.”

Kind words from patients mean everything to our team!💛

Throughout our network, patients consistently share how they feel heard, supported and cared for during their time at NH+C.

“After spending two nights at this hospital with pneumonia, I can tell you that the staff here is absolutely amazing. The doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, kitchen, and cleaning staff were the most caring, friendly and helpful you could ever ask for. They really do a wonderful job.”

“As an in-patient, I can say they have some of the most caring, compassionate and professional staff I have ever seen. Every person I came into contact showed this kind of care.”

“I’ve had 3 procedures there and every time it was a very positive experience. The nurses were professional and took great care of me.”

“I went to the Emergency Department in the middle of the night with intolerable eye pain. Dr. Jessica Storlie listened carefully, asked questions, and offered comments with speed, focus and clarity. All the staff I encountered were skilled, attentive, and kind. Three cheers for our very own rural hospital.”

These testimonials reflect the people behind the care, showing up every day with compassion, skill, and a commitment to doing what’s right for each patient.

To our team, thank you for taking such good care of our community.

Health care that feels like home

It was an unusual way to celebrate a birthday. But then, 100 isn’t your typical birthday.

Margit Fredrickson was turning 100. Her son Karl thought she’d like to meet a baby who shares her birthday . . . 100 years apart. He called the Birth Center at Northfield Hospital that day to ask if any new babies had arrived. That’s how Margit met Waylon, just hours after he was born.

We’re proud that Northfield Hospital is a place where community connects . . . for over 115 years.

Our hospital and clinics provide state-of-the-art care in a tranquil environment that’s easy to reach, easy to navigate, and always welcoming. Our providers and staff are here for you in your happiest . . . and hardest . . . moments.
