It can be easy to take for granted our flexibility and how useful it is in our daily tasks! Without these abilities, being able to do simple tasks like bending your arm to brush your teeth, extending your shoulder when changing your clothes, or bending over to grab something off the floor would be near impossible chores.

Especially after age 70, there are significant drop offs in these values so it becomes increasingly important to continue to stretch regularly.

Increase in fall risk can be greatly tied to decreased muscle strength & walking speed. It can be one of the biggest indicators of continuing independence in the aging population.

A study done in nursing home residents found that the group with an added progressive resistance exercise training program over 10 weeks experienced an increase in 113% in muscle strength & function, gait velocity of 12%, and stair-climbing power of 28%.

These are great stats to show the importance of resistance-based training and its role in keeping you independent as you age!
