Yoga is an opportunity to deepen your internal experience. As you practice you observe what you are doing and how you are doing it. You are both the observer and what is observed at the same time.

Over time your practice becomes your everyday experience.

You pay attention. You observe. You act instead of react.

Yoga can help you save your joint cartilage from further damage...

During normal motion, muscles contract on one side of the joint, while the muscle on the opposite side relaxes. Therefore --- half of our muscular activity is created by tension while the other half is simultaneously in relaxation.

Muscular tension compresses the joint space.

When a person's nervous system has not learned to relax during motion, the muscular tension can cause damage to the cartilage or joint capsule.

The signal that we are experiencing change begins with subtle messages like the feeling of being stiff. If ignored the stiffness progresses to aches, pains, and joint damage.

When practicing yoga asana we can reset our nervous system and learn how to relax. We can create space in our joints and save our cartilage from further damage.

Yoga burns fat ...

Skeletal muscles are made up of two types of fibers: dark, or slow-twitch, fibers and white, or fast-twitch fibers.

The fast twitch fibers can only burn glucose.

The more vigorous your exercise program, the more you are going to engage fast-twitch fibers while leaving the slow-twitch fibers behind.

This means you burn less fat and produce more lactic acid.

Slow movement (YOGA) is of more benefit in that it uses both the fast- and the slow-twitch fibers, thereby activating all your muscles and burning fat along with glucose.

The grounding Earth part of Tadasana and the upward rising Sky part of Tadasana where the core of you rises. You’ll feel movement of energy down and up and but also movement from within and out. The key is that you must go down (ground down) to go up and feel the space within to go out.

Try feeling mountine pose is every pose you do. Also, try embodying mountain pose in your everyday.

A new meta-analysis (Stens, Niels A., et al. "Relationship of daily step counts to all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events." Take a minute to ground yourself during this busy holiday season.
All you need is a chair (take your shoes off if possible).
1. Sit on a chair that is firm toward the edge so that you can feel your sit bones.
2. Feel the connection from your sit bones down into your heels and then reach into your big toes.
3. Place your palms on your knees and extend gently through the fingers but especially feel through the thumb.
4. Lift up from the sit bones to the tail bone.
5. Take a few deep breaths to create openness and space in this triangle (sit bones to tailbone).
6. Now reach from your tailbone to your breastbone to feel the lift up and across your chest.
7. As you continue to breathe deep feel the constract between the heavy grounded feeling in your feet, legs and pelvis with the lightness and lift through your spine and chest.
8. Keep breathing and balance the two feelings grounded heavy/lightness space.
Hold for 2 min or more. Notice how you feel.

WHAT IS YOUR PATH TO BETTER HEALTH?
Nutrition science is changing all the time and it is very personal. What works for me may not work for you. It's difficult to sift through all the noise and conflicting information out there. I have done it and I continue to do it. What our body needs is not static it changes over time and we need to be able to adapt to its needs.

All exercise can boost your mood by lowering the stress hormones and increasing the feel good hormones but YOGA elevates GABA a brain chemical that improves mood and decreases anxiety. Meditation reduces activity in the limbic system which reduces emotional reactivity.
