Subjective Cognitive Decline leads to Mild Cognitive Impairment and progresses to Alzheimer's and other related dementias. It takes 20 years for Alzheimer's to fully develop but there are signs that occur years before that give you more reason to work on things now to avoid cognitive decline later in life.
Some simple clues you can look for in your own life include some of the following:
-memory loss, such as forgetting names or places
-problems with organizing and planning
-struggling with multi-tasking
-slower recall
-misplacing items
-difficulty finding words or recognizing faces
-difficulty calculating simple numbers like 20% for a tip
According to the CDC, people as young as 45, 1 in 9 adults are experiencing Subjective Cognitive Decline.
If you are experiencing some of the above, it may mean nothing. I misplace things all the time. However, if several of the above happen to you often, and you feel agitated often as a result, you should dig deeper and start making choices to help reverse or stop the decline.
Some simple things to start now, with or without symptoms include:
1. Exercise (60% less likely to develop dementia)
2. Sleep - start a routine and follow it.
3. Reduce inflammation with diet and/or supplements
4. Make friends! Increase your daily social interactions. (10 minutes of daily social interaction reduces your risk of developing dementia)
Good Luck, and I hope you enjoyed this post.
