Ever wondered what you should do after your massage to get the best results? Save this post for after your next session!
1. Drink plenty of water! Massage results in cellular debris that will need to circulate out of your body through your lymphatic system. Water is extremely important for these processes! 💦
2. Avoid intense activities. Even though you may feel good, massages can result in tissue damages. There is enough for your body to process without tearing down more muscle tissue. 🥱
3. DO NOT sit still. While it is important not to add more damage to your system, it's also important to get your body moving to circulate the debris. Gentle movement such as yoga or a walk is encouraged! 🙃
4. Epsom salt baths are your best friend. Epsom salt has been shown to stimulate lymph circulation in the body, while the magnesium helps neutralize acid waste and the nitric oxide helps relax blood vessels. This can help decrease soreness in the tissue that has been worked. 🥰
5. It is encouraged to eat a health diet high in protein for the next 24-48 hours. Since we are potentially causing tissue damage, it is helpful to provide the body with the building blocks to repair that tissue. 💪
6. Sleep is when the body undertakes significant physical restoration and recovery. Prioritize quality sleep habits to support your tissue in the recovery process! 😴
It is IMPORTANT to note that while Epsom salt is generally safe it is important that you check with your healthcare provider to be sure that Epsom salt baths are safe for YOU. If you have diabetes this is especially important as salt baths can cause drying of the skin and potential splits or cracks in the skin barrier which can be extremely dangerous in the diabetic population 🫶
