For 70 years, Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk (VNSHS) has been providing health care of the highest quality to patients regardless of race, religion, age, s*x, or ability to pay. With a tradition of professional, charitable, and compassionate care, our skilled home nursing and hospice services, inpatient Hospice House, home health aides, and community programs such as flu shot and bloo

d pressure clinics and bereavement groups serve residents throughout Suffolk County. We provide post-acute care for patients in their homes, which may include assisted living facilities and inpatient care in our Hospice House. As an independent, not-for-profit healthcare agency rooted in the community, VNSHS understands the needs of the community. Incorporated in 1952, VNSHS is the first visiting nurse agency in Suffolk County and, in 2004, founded Hospice House, the first freestanding inpatient hospice in New York State. Hospice House is an 8-bed inpatient facility designed specifically to meet the needs of patients as they face the end of life and their families.

VNS & Hospice of Suffolk is proud to present Maggie Taylor with the Helen Strobl Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a Northport High School senior who has demonstrated academic achievement and is pursuing a career in the field of nursing. This scholarship is in honor of the first Executive Director of VNS & Hospice of Suffolk, who was a Baccalaureate and Masters nursing graduate and proponent of higher education for nurses.

Shares Maggie who will be attending Coastal Carolina University's Honors College in the Fall, "Ever since I was a child, I have always wanted to help others in any way possible. As I grew, I began to recognize the power, care, and strength that nurses possess. Knowing all that nurses do for their patients has made me appreciate and realize how much I will be able to help others just like the nurses that will have come before me. By being awarded this scholarship, I will be able to begin my journey in Nursing at Coastal Carolina University as a part of the Honors College and join such a valiant profession.

What a day! The 25th annual Run for the Health of It 5K was one for the record books—530 runners, over $40,000 raised, and a whole lot of heart.

From Kevin Martin’s race wining 16:26 finish to 98-year-old Bert Jablon crossing the line with unstoppable spirit, this year’s race truly had it all. We kicked things off with Northport’s own Danny Meglio and the Honor Guard, watched little ones dash with big smiles in the Kids Fun Run, and took meaningful moments to remember loved ones at our Memory Wall.

This year’s race took place during National Nurses Week—a fitting tribute to the compassionate caregivers who inspire us every day. Special shoutout to Urszula Musik and Sean Cowles, our first male and female nurses across the finish line!

Funds raised will support the expansion of the Memorial Garden at Hospice House—a space of peace and remembrance for over two decades.

Thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, Elitefeats, Wellness Village participants, and every single runner and supporter who made this milestone year so impactful. Until next year!
