Everyone is talking about what AI can DO.
Almost nobody is talking about what AI REQUIRES.

AI runs on massive data centers — huge warehouse-like buildings filled with servers running 24/7.

These facilities use enormous amounts of:
• Electricity
• Water
• Land
• Cooling systems

Now researchers are studying whether these centers may also create “data heat islands” — areas where waste heat from the buildings could actually warm surrounding communities.

As AI rapidly expands, people living near these sites are beginning to raise concerns about:
• Strain on local power grids
• Heavy water use
• Noise pollution
• Land development
• Environmental impact

AI is no longer just a tech story. It’s becoming an infrastructure, energy, and environmental story too.

The question is no longer only: “What can AI do?”
It’s also: “What will it cost communities to power it?

WE NEED TO TALK! …. because too many of my young patients are doing this!

Too many children are worried about “fixing” their skin before they even hit puberty!

Elementary school kids are now asking for:
*Retinol* Anti-aging serums *Exfoliating acids *Multi-step skincare routines

Because they saw them on TikTok, influencers, social media, and friends.

And the problem isn’t just the products.
It’s the message:
“Your skin needs fixing.”

Children are learning beauty routines before they are learning confidence.

Many of these products are designed for adult skin and may cause:
• Irritation • Dryness • Rashes • Damage to the skin barrier

Children do NOT need complicated skincare routines.

Your child does not need anti-aging products! And that is what is being marketed to them on social media.

PAY ATTENTION to what your child asks you to buy for them. READ LABELS.

They need play, sunshine, confidence, and the message that healthy skin does not need to be perfect.

AI Chatbots & Teens - What Parents Need to Know

Experts worry some teens may become emotionally attached to AI companions.

More kids are turning to AI for:
• advice
• emotional support
• friendship
• homework help

Apps like:
• ChatGPT
• Character.AI
• Replika
are designed to feel human-like and conversational.

To kids and teens…
they can start to feel “real.”

Many teens are using AI because it feels:
• available 24/7
• non-judgmental
• easy to talk to
• emotionally validating

Especially kids who feel:
• lonely
• anxious
• misunderstood
• socially isolated

But AI is NOT a real person.

Chatbots do not:
• truly understand emotions
• protect mental health
• recognize danger
• replace human connection

They are programmed to respond — not care.

Experts worry some teens may form emotional attachments to AI chatbots and companions.

Some kids are sharing:
• fears
• secrets
• relationship problems
• mental health struggles
with chatbots instead of trusted adults.

AI can also sometimes:
• give incorrect advice
• reinforce unhealthy thinking
• agree with harmful ideas
• blur the line between reality and technology

That can be dangerous for vulnerable teens.

Parents should:
• talk openly about AI
• explain that chatbots are not friends or therapists
• monitor how kids are using AI
• encourage real-life relationships
• protect offline time and sleep

Kids need:
• real conversations
• real friendships
• real emotional support
• real human connection

Technology should support childhood — not replace it

Teaching Kids Life Skills Starts Earlier Than You Think!

Most parents think life skills start when kids are older…
But they actually start from birth.

Babies learn trust when we respond to their needs.
Toddlers learn independence when we let them help.
Kids build confidence when they are given real responsibilities.

Life skills aren’t extra.
They are part of raising healthy, capable kids

Skills to start teaching early:
Infants
Trust → responding to cries and needs
Communication → talking, singing, reading aloud
Attention & engagement → face-to-face interaction, eye contact
Problem solving → allowing time to explore toys and surroundings
Independence → tummy time, reaching, self-feeding when ready
Connection & empathy → loving touch, responsive caregiving

Toddlers & Kids
Responsibility → helping with simple chores
Communication → expressing feelings and needs
Problem solving → figuring things out independently
Empathy → caring about others
Resilience → learning to handle disappointment
Independence → doing age-appropriate tasks on their own

The goal is raising children who can eventually care for themselves, solve problems, and move through the world with confidence.

Start small.
Let them help.
Let them try.
Let them make mistakes.
Let them learn.

Because childhood isn’t just preparation for school…

It’s preparation for life.

If your child comes to you and says:

“Everyone is mean to me”
“This kid keeps embarrassing me”
“I don’t want to go anymore”

Please listen carefully.

Tweens and teens often do not have the emotional vocabulary to clearly say:
“I am being bullied.”

But they know when someone is hurting them.

Believe them.

I recently witnessed bullying within a High School baseball team.

At the start of the season, the coaches spoke to the players and parents about brotherhood. They told the team:

* Take care of one another
* Defend each other on and off the field
* Be brothers to one another

But not long into the season, it became clear that the Captain of the team was bullying another player. Verbally. Physically. Mostly in the locker room and on the bench.

The Captain- who was expected to lead and motivate the other players

And the rest of the team watched it happen.

Some tried quietly to defend him.
Some looked away.
Others laughed along.

The player being bullied tried to explain it to his parents—but like so many tweens and teens, he didn’t fully have the words to describe what was happening.

He only knew:

* Someone was making him feel small
*He felt humiliated
*He felt unsafe

After months of this, another player finally did something incredibly brave.
He told the Coach.

The Coach addressed the team about “zero tolerance” and benched the Captain for two games.

And then the bullying continued.

But now it expanded to include the player who spoke up.
The kid who did the right thing.
The kid who had the courage to protect someone else.

He became the new target.

And the Coaches did nothing.

They claimed they “weren’t aware” because they aren’t allowed in the locker room.

But this is exactly why adults MUST pay attention when kids speak up.

Because bullying thrives in environments where:

*Kids are afraid to report it
*Bystanders stay silent
*Adults minimize it
*Leadership looks away

This situation is heartbreaking on so many levels.

For the first player who was bullied.
For the second player who defended him and became bullied himself.
For the teammates forced to witness it every day.

And honestly… maybe most of all for the player doing the bullying.

Because children who repeatedly humiliate, intimidate, and hurt others are not “just being tough.”

Something is wrong.

And adults are failing all of these kids when they allow it to continue.

Sports are supposed to build character, leadership, and trust.

If a child cannot feel emotionally or physically safe within their own team… then the adults in charge are failing them.
