Taking a few minutes each month to check your own breasts can help you notice changes early. Here’s how to do it — and what to look out for:
- Visual Check (in the mirror)
- Stand with your arms down by your sides, then raise them overhead.
- Place your hands on your hips and press down to flex your chest muscles.
-Look for changes in shape, size, symmetry, skin texture (dimpling, puckering), ni**le position, or redness/scale.

Hands-On Check (standing or in the shower)
- Use the pads of your three middle fingers on one hand to examine the opposite breast.
- Move in a pattern (circles, up & down rows, or “pie wedges”) to cover the entire breast — from the collarbone to below the breast and from the sternum to your armpit.
- Use light, medium, and firm pressure to feel superficial and deeper tissues.
- Gently squeeze the ni**le to check for discharge.

Lying Down Check
- Lie down with a pillow under your shoulder, arm behind your head.
- Using the same finger pads, systematically examine the entire breast and underarm, using varying pressure.
- Repeat on the other side.

📆 When & How Often
If you still menstruate, do your self-check a few days after your period ends, when breasts are less swollen or tender.

Note: Self-checks are not a substitute for clinical exams or mammograms. They help you become aware of what “normal” is for your body.
