Before Kenny began services with his Aveanna team in 2019, he faced numerous challenges with feeding and congenital conditions. His family sought a team who would stand beside them with skill, compassion, and relentless commitment.

That is exactly what they found with Aveanna nurse Della. Through the years, she has provided steady, hands-on clinical care, giving Kenny’s family reassurance and stability.

Now, Kenny is attending school, engaging in his learning environment, and communicating using his speaking device. He is no longer just overcoming challenges — he is discovering his voice and his independence in the world.

Aveanna patient Jamir is one of our tiniest heart warriors, and we’re honored to share his beautiful story during Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week.

Jamir was born with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a condition in which a fetal blood vessel remains open after birth, affecting blood flow between the heart and lungs. He also lives with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), a small opening in the wall separating the heart’s lower chambers.

From the very beginning, Jamir has shown remarkable strength.
After undergoing surgery to repair his PDA, Jamir continued to shine. Along every step of his journey, Aveanna nurse Amber has been there providing expert care, gentle reassurance, and celebrating each milestone as it comes. Her devotion helps ensure Jamir stays safe and supported as he grows.

It’s a true privilege to walk alongside patients like Jamir and the caregivers who champion them every day. This Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week, we celebrate their incredible journeys that inspire us all.

During their 20-week fetal ultrasound, George's family learned that he had a congenital heart defect, news that grew more complex with every scan.

After he was born, he was diagnosed with Double-outlet right ventricle, a condition where the heart has two openings for blood to exit instead of one. This causes some of the blood to go to the body instead of the lungs. George also lives with Transposition of the great arteries (TGA), a rare heart condition that lowers the amount of oxygen-rich blood in his body.

Prior to his most recent surgery, George was oxygen dependent and required continuous j-tube feedings. In his short life, George has endured two open-heart surgeries, multiple cardiac procedures, and continues to rely on a G-tube. With the support of his Aveanna team, George's family can soak up every moment in between surgeries and know their loved one is safe.

We are honored to play a part in George's care journey! This week and every week, we shed light on our courageous patients with congenital heart defects and celebrate their strength and perseverance.

It's Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week! Aveanna is proud to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to raise awareness about congenital heart defects (CHDs) and support our patients who live with them.

CHDs are the most common type of birth defect and can affect the way a baby’s heart functions and pumps blood to the rest of the body. While some CHDs are relatively mild, others are more severe and might require surgery. There are an estimated 2.4 million children and adults living with CHDs in the U.S.
