👄Speech production is an💥AMAZING💥coordination of multiple body systems!
✅ By 4 years old, we should be able to understand about 90% of what a child is trying to say.

👄A frontal lisp happens when a child tries to say “s” or “z” but places the tongue too far forward.

🏆Since “s” is in the top 5 most frequent English sounds, this is often a sound children need help with.

✅ Here is a tip to try at home:

🥇Use a sound the child can say to help get the right tongue placement for “s” (Shaping)

💥this might look like “t” to “s” Have the child repeat the “t” sound by itself. Make sure the tongue is behind the teeth for this sound as well! Then instruct them to say “t” and this time to “push” the air 💨 out while keeping the mouth in the same spot.

💬 I call this the “leaky tire T” because the tire pops ( “t” sound) and then the air leaks out ( “s” sound) 🏎🚜

✅ There are quite a few other strategies but this is my favorite as it works most of the time.

As babies practice using these and other gestures, their 🧠 brains are getting ready to use words. 🗣
